ROLE – Mechanical Design Engineer

SALARY – Competitive hourly rate, dependent on experience

TYPE – Ongoing, Part-Time

LOCATION – Remote (Australia-based applicants only)

My client designs and develops a range of bespoke products and equipment. They are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in an ongoing, part time role. Remote/hybrid working is available.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:
At least 5 years of experience in a similar Mechanical Design Engineering position
Highly skilled in SolidWorks and 3D CAD design
Strong experience designing injection-moulded plastic components and products
Good understanding of design for manufacture (DFM), particularly for injection moulding
Solid theoretical engineering knowledge, including tolerances, fits and material selection
Experienced producing detailed manufacturing drawings and technical documentation
Experience designing products from initial concept through to production
Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to design




Able to work independently and manage tasks to agreed deadlines
Transparent communicator who is comfortable working remotely with a wider team
Must be currently based in Australia and have full working rights in Australia

The Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:
Using SolidWorks to develop 3D models and detailed technical drawings
Designing and developing injection-moulded plastic components and assemblies
Applying DFM principles to ensure designs are suitable for manufacture
Developing products from concept through to production
Updating and refining existing designs and 3D models
Producing manufacturing drawings, specifications and other technical documentation
Working with manufacturing providers to ensure designs can be produced effectively
Reviewing and resolving design and manufacturing issues
Collaborating remotely with other members of the team and external suppliers
Working independently on diverse mechanical design projects
