Job Description

The Drainer / Steel Fixer is responsible for the protected, accurate and efficient installation of civil drainage systems and reinforcing steel, while leading a small team to deliver high‑quality, compliant outcomes. The role ensures all works meet engineering specifications, site requirements, WHS legislation and NRG Reo’s operational standards.

Key Responsibilities
Drainage Installation & Civil Works
Install and maintain stormwater, sewer, sub‑soil and surface water drainage systems.
Excavate trenches to correct depth, grade and alignment.
Lay pipes, pits, culverts, manholes and associated components.
Conduct pre‑installation checks and ensure correct bedding, alignment and fall.
Backfill, compact and reinstate work areas to specification.
Operate small plant and equipment (excavators, trenchers, compactors) within competency.
Identify and resolve drainage conflicts or design issues.
Steel Fixing Responsibilities
Read and interpret structural drawings, bar schedules and site plans.
Install reinforcing steel including bars, mesh, ligatures, stirrups, cages and dowels.




Tie reinforcement using approved tying methods (N12, N16, N20 etc.).
Fabricate reinforcement components on site where required.
Position reinforcement to correct cover, spacing, laps and supports.
Install chairs, spacers, bar supports and accessories.
Participate in pre‑pour inspections and rectify issues identified by supervisors or engineers

Skill & Experience

Skills & Competencies
Solid understanding of civil drainage systems and installation methods.
Competency in reinforcement placement, tying, spacing, laps and cover.
Ability to read and interpret civil and structural drawings.
Supervisor capability with transparent communication and direction‑setting.
Ability to problem‑solve on site and adapt to changing conditions.
High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Strong physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour.
Ability to work collaboratively with multiple trades and site personnel.
