RETAIL & TECHNICAL SALES MANAGER | HD PUMPS - WINNELLIE
HD Pumps is a trusted name in the pump and water equipment industry, dedicated to Making Water Work through quality products and expert service.
We're looking for a capable, hands-on Retail & Technical Sales Manager to help lead our Winnellie sales and stores team — someone who can sell technically, run the floor, and keep the back end ticking over.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a diverse, hands-on leadership role that combines technical sales with retail and store operations.
As our Retail & Technical Sales Manager, you'll lead the day-to-day operation of our retail sales and stores team.
One minute you'll be sizing and selecting the right pump or water equipment for a customer's application and preparing a quote; the next you'll be leading the team, maintaining a well-presented showroom, and ensuring purchasing, stock control and goods receipting are running smoothly.
Working with both retail customers and trade and commercial clients, you'll provide expert technical advice while supporting our Sales Manager with quotations, tenders and project opportunities.
You'll also play a key role in purchasing, inventory management and the efficient operation of the warehouse and showroom.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, leading a team and taking ownership of the retail side of the business.
You'll work closely with the Branch Manager, Sales Manager and Service Manager, each leading their own area of the business to deliver outstanding customer service and drive the continued growth of HD Pumps.
This role includes rostered Saturday morning shifts as part of the standard work schedule.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide expert,



application-specific advice on pumps and water equipment — sizing and selecting to suit the job
Handle counter and external sales, and prepare accurate quotes; support the Sales Manager with tenders and project quotations
Provide day-to-day leadership to the retail and stores team.
Oversee the presentation, standards and customer experience of the Winnellie showroom
Support and back up purchasing, goods receipting, stock control and inventory in MYOB Acumatica, including cover for the Business Administration Officer during absences
Test and commission new pumps before sale, and assemble or modify fittings to suit customer needs
Manage cash and payment systems, and balance the till as required
Help achieve sales targets and contribute to the branch's overall growth
Participate in the Saturday morning roster as required
ABOUT YOU
You're a practical, customer-focused person who's confident with technical products and ready to lead by example.
You enjoy solving problems, you're organised, and you're as comfortable behind the counter as you are keeping the stores and admin side in order.
To be successful, you'll have:
Sales experience, preferably in a trade, industrial or technical retail environment
Experience in the water industry, including one or more of: pumps, pressure cleaning, irrigation, or pool construction/maintenance
Management or supervisory experience




Strong communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to read and interpret technical information (datasheets, drawings, specifications)
Solid computer skills (quoting, purchasing, invoicing and general admin)
A proactive, results-driven attitude with good attention to detail
The ability to work independently and lead a team
Well regarded, but not essential:
Experience reading pump curves or selecting equipment to a duty point
A trade qualification or technical background, or a frontline leadership/management qualification
Service experience
Additional Requirements:
Ability to pass a National Police Check
Licences:
Current Australian (manual) driver's licence
Forklift licence (or willingness to obtain)
