We are Australia's National Vocational Education and Training (VET) regulator.
What we do
We regulate providers that deliver VET qualifications and courses to students in Australia or offer Australian qualifications internationally, providers that deliver VET courses to overseas students, and certain providers that deliver English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students.
We also accredit VET courses to make sure nationally approved standards are met.

We ensure quality VET so that students, industry, governments and the community have confidence in the integrity of national qualifications issues by training providers, and that students are protected from any practices that come at the expense of their ability to gain the required competencies.

The key duties of the position include:About the Opportunity
We are seeking an Assistant Director, Compliance who will be responsible for managing a team of Compliance Officers to support the Director Compliance in ensuring that compliance is managed in a way that supports the objective of quality VET, in accordance with the ASQA Approach to Compliance Regulatory Practice Guide.
Key responsibilities include:
leading and managing a team responsible for compliance management, including establishing expectations, and scheduling and reviewing work
applying compliance methodologies to efficiently and effectively resolve identified non‐compliance and escalate significant or ongoing non-compliance for proportionate regulatory response, in conjunction with ASQA's confidence in the provider's commitment and capability and the level of potential/actual harm
applying good administrative law decision-making principles based on relevant information, analysis of evidence, and in compliance with legislation to enable respondents to understand the basis of decisions affecting them
supporting, mentoring and coaching members of the team to develop their capability.
Skills and experience
To succeed in this role, you will have:
a demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team performing regulatory functions (particularly through change or reform)
an understanding of best practice regulation and/or enforcement powers, administrative law principles and the ability to make clear, well-reasoned and timely risk based regulatory decisions and highly developed critical thinking skills with the ability to research and analyse a range of complex issues
the ability to identify and propose improvements to systems, processes, communications and/or timeliness
the ability to develop and implement work plans, set work area priorities, and evaluate outputs
the ability to develop and manage relationships with staff and stakeholders,



engaging and collaborating to achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation
demonstrated experience providing high-quality written and oral advice to senior management

EligibilityEligibility to apply
Under Section 22(8) of the Public Service Act ****, employees must be Australian Citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency delegate has agreed, in writing, to the contrary.
