About the OpportunityHatchit Studios is seeking an experienced Lead Optical Network Data Management Specialist for a long-term labour hire opportunity supporting a major Australian Government department.
This role will be responsible for supporting and sustaining critical data centre and optical networking infrastructure, ensuring the reliability and performance of enterprise telecommunications services across secure Canberra-based data centres.
The successful candidate will work within a specialist infrastructure team responsible for operating, maintaining and optimising CIENA optical transport networks and associated data centre technologies within a highly secure environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesEngineer, operate and support CIENA optical transport networks, including DWDM-based Data Centre Interconnect (DCI) solutions.Install, configure and maintain optical networking infrastructure within enterprise data centre environments.Support the operation and sustainment of critical data centre and optical network environments.Perform fibre optic and copper cabling installation, termination, testing and rack preparation activities.Provision, commission, test and optimise optical transport services to ensure resilient,



high-capacity network performance.Troubleshoot complex networking and infrastructure issues.Produce and maintain technical documentation including High-Level Designs (HLDs), Low-Level Designs (LLDs), build guides and operational procedures.Coordinate with internal technical teams, telecommunications carriers and external vendors.Ensure all work is completed in accordance with government operational, security and safety standards.
Skills & Experience RequiredMinimum 5 years' experience supporting CIENA optical transport networks.Strong experience with DWDM, Data Centre Interconnect (DCI) and optical transport technologies.Experience deploying and supporting enterprise optical network infrastructure.Experience working within enterprise or government data centre environments.Strong knowledge of fibre optic infrastructure, structured cabling and hardware installation.Experience coordinating carrier services, circuit provisioning and fault management.Ability to produce clear technical documentation including HLDs, LLDs and operational procedures.
DesirableCIENA certifications.Cisco CCNA or CCNP.Optical Networking / DWDM / OTN certifications.Fibre optic or structured cabling certifications.Experience working within Australian Government ICT environments.
