With the recent commencement of Australia's EPBC Act reforms and the National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA), demand for high-quality fauna assessment services is increasing.
We are growing our team and are seeking an experienced Senior Zoologist to play a central role in that growth.
★ THE WORK ★Ecologia's project portfolio spans the geographic extent of Western Australia, encompassing pre-mining terrestrial fauna surveys, renewable energy bird and bat investigations, targeted threatened fauna assessments, subterranean fauna assessments, urban biodiversity studies and long-term fauna monitoring programs.
Responsibilities will include:
1. Leading basic, detailed and targeted terrestrial vertebrate fauna surveys across Western Australia from project scoping through to final report delivery.
2. Leading targeted surveys for Threatened and Priority fauna including black cockatoos, western ringtail possum, chuditch, quokka, northern quoll, grey falcon, Pilbara olive python, greater bilby,



Pilbara leaf-nosed and ghost bats, reptiles and other conservation significant mammals.
3. Preparing and reviewing technical reports to EPA and EPBC standards.
4. Providing expert advice on State and Commonwealth environmental approvals.
5. Leading bird and bat utilisation surveys, bat acoustic monitoring and collision risk investigations for renewable energy projects.
6. Mentoring and supervising junior zoologists.
7. Contributing to project management, budgets, scheduling and client liaison.
8. Undertaking GIS analysis using ArcGIS and/or QGIS.
9. Supporting business development through technical proposals and client relationships.
★ PROJECT EXPOSURE ACROSS WESTERN AUSTRALIA ★Ecologia has completed more than 2,000 ecological projects since ****.
The Senior Zoologist will contribute to full suite of our projects:
· ⛏ Pilbara Resources Pre-mining vertebrate fauna surveys across iron ore, lithium and gold projects, and significant fauna monitoring projects.
· Renewables Bird and bat utilisation surveys, black cockatoo assessments and collision risk modelling for windfarm developments.
· Southwest Biodiversity Hotspot Targeted surveys for Western Ringtail Possum, Carnaby's and Baudin's Black Cockatoos,



Chuditch, Woylie and other threatened fauna.
· Coastal & Infrastructure Corridors Fauna assessments for ports, transmission lines, roads and pipeline corridors.
· Urban & Peri-urban Development Subdivision and industrial development fauna assessments.
· ⚡ Mine Rehabilitation Monitoring Long-term monitoring programs assessing fauna recolonisation and ecosystem recovery.
★ SELECTION CRITERIA ★1.
Tertiary qualifications in Zoology, Ecology, Environmental Science or related discipline.
2. Minimum five years' zoological consulting experience (WA preferred).
3. Demonstrated experience leading vertebrate fauna surveys.
4. Strong identification skills for mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians.
5. Excellent technical writing and reporting skills.
6. Knowledge of the EP Act, EPBC Act and environmental approvals.
7. Competency in ArcGIS and/or QGIS.
8. Current C Class driver's licence and willingness to undertake remote fieldwork.
9. Commitment to rigorous, evidence-based environmental assessment.
