About the role
We are seeking multiple Full-Time or Permanent Part-Time Technical Assistants to join our Laboratory Support Services team. This is an excellent opportunity to start a career in pathology and healthcare, with full training provided and opportunities to develop valuable laboratory skills. Based at our Mile End Laboratory, you will play a vital role in receiving, processing and preparing patient specimens for diagnostic testing, helping ensure accurate and timely results that support quality patient care. Working in a fast-paced environment, your attention to detail and commitment to quality will help ensure every specimen begins its journey with precision and care. This role operates across a rotating roster, with morning, day, afternoon and evening shifts available across seven days per week including weekends to support our continuous laboratory operations.

No previous laboratory experience is required—we provide comprehensive training, ongoing support and hands-on learning opportunities to help you develop valuable laboratory skills and gain exposure to diagnostic testing processes.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Receive, triage and process patient specimens
Accurately enter patient and specimen data into laboratory information systems
Carefully review all information provided on request forms including patient information and testing requirements to facilitate quality patient care
Follow quality, safety and compliance procedures to maintain laboratory work areas and equipment
Contribute to a high-quality, team-oriented environment while maintaining accuracy and efficiency in all work processes.
To be successful you will have:
Essential
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organisational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail
A positive, professional attitude and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Confidence using computer systems, including Microsoft Office applications.
The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy.
