Mechanical Fitter / SupervisorKerr Engineering is a well-established steel fabrication and machining business located in Henderson, Western Australia is seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter / Supervisor to join our team.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone with strong trade skills who is ready to take ownership of the role and lead a team of tradespeople in a busy environment.
About the RoleAs Mechanical Fitter / Supervisor, you will split your time between hands-on fitting, fabrication, and machining work, and supervising day-to-day workshop activities.
You'll play a key role in ensuring jobs are completed to a high standard, on time, and in line with safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Perform mechanical fitting, assembly, and installation of fabricated and machined components
Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and schematics
Supervise and coordinate a team of fitters, fabricators, and machinists on the workshop floor
Allocate daily tasks, monitor job progress, and manage priorities to meet deadlines
Conduct quality checks and ensure work meets required tolerances and standards
Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and on-the-job training to team members
Liaise with production/workshop management on scheduling, resourcing, and job status
Ensure compliance with WHS/OHS procedures and maintain a safe work environment
Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical or fabrication issues as they arise




Maintain accurate job records, timesheets, and reporting
What We're Looking For
Trade qualification as a Fitter, Fitter & Turner, or Mechanical Fitter (Certificate III or equivalent)
Proven experience in a steel fabrication and/or machining workplace
Previous experience in a supervisory, leading hand, or team leader capacity
Strong ability to read and interpret technical/engineering drawings
Sound knowledge of fitting, welding, and general fabrication processes
Experience with machining processes (lathes, mills, CNC equipment) advantageous
Solid understanding of workplace health and safety requirements
Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
Forklift and/or crane license highly regarded
Ability to work well under pressure and manage competing priorities
