The role of the Assistant Director - Information Releases is to lead a specialist team delivering high quality information services in the Open Arms Division.
The primary function of this role is to oversee a team in the management and processing of all client Releases of Information (ROI) and legal notices such as subpoenas, court orders, Freedom of Information (FOI) requests and APP 12 applications.
The position requires careful adherence to legislative requirements and organisational protocols in the handling and disclosure of protected, sensitive client information.
The Assistant Director manages competing priorities to ensure lawful, timely, and defensible information release decisions, while providing authoritative advice to senior leaders on legal, privacy, and information governance risks.
It operates within a complex APS workplace involving high risk, sensitive clinical information.
This role involves team management and multiple competing priorities to enable timely, effective and coordinated service delivery whilst exercising sound professional and clinical judgement.
The key duties of the position include:
Oversee decision-making for FOI, Privacy Act access, subpoenas, and other legal notices.
Oversee and manage the Information Releases team as part of the broader Open Arms Division.
Manage complex, sensitive, and high-risk information release matters, including engagement with legal services and regulators where required.
Coordinate legal advice, escalate high-risk matters and ensure compliance with APS legislation, policy, and governance frameworks.
Lead staff performance, capability development, and effectively manage performance and encourage professional growth.
Support and provide strategic and operational information and advice to the Director Clinical Information Management.
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders and coordinate the acquisition of legal advice in relation to clinical services and ensuring that high-risk cases are referred in accordance with business processes in a timely and efficient manner.
Contribute to the development of policy advice, governance arrangements and continuous quality improvement activities.

Eligibility
Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act ****, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
Any successful candidate external to DVA offered employment will be required to undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance.
The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.
Any successful candidate will also be required to obtain and/or maintain, a baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance as a minimum.
Desirable Requirements:
Experience in working within the Australian Public Service and working in health or mental health setting is highly desirable.
Qualifications as a registered Psychologist / Occupational Therapist / Mental Health Registered Nurse with full AHPRA registration, OR
Qualification as a Social Worker eligible for membership of the Australian Association Social Workers (AASW) and eligible to apply for Mental Health accreditation.
