The key duties of the position include:As a Compliance or Project Officer, you will:
Work in the Small Business and Agriculture, Consumer and Compliance Strategies, and Retail and Supermarkets branches.
Ensure the overall delivery and strategic focus of projects in the Division are in line with the Compliance and Enforcement Policy, plans and directions.
Be responsible for managing inputs and contributions to the delivery of compliance projects and activities, including planning, monitoring, reporting, research and analysis.
Provide advice to senior management on trends and patterns to support policy and legislative reform and contribute to the delivery of strategic engagement activities with key industry, stakeholder and consumer organisations, including participation in formal discussion and decision-making forums.
Prepare (and/or review as appropriate), for approval, internal and external documents including submissions, staff papers, notices, undertakings, correspondence, reports, minutes, briefs, reports and media releases.
Work collaboratively within a geographically dispersed team to manage joint projects and tasks, including tracking progress and workflow, meeting milestones and deadlines and develop and maintain effective working relationships and professional networks with internal and external stakeholders.
Within the Retail and Supermarkets Branch, candidates may take on a data analyst role, which will involve applying a range of methodologies via code to analyse large and complex data sets, and communicate the results.

Successful candidates at the APS5 level will demonstrate a greater degree of responsibility for delivery of outcomes and will work more independently on a range projects.
As an Investigator, you will:
Work within CFT Enforcement branches.




Be responsible for engaging with various external stakeholders, including consumers, businesses, and government agencies, so clear written and verbal communication skills are key.
Be responsible for investigating potential breaches of the consumer and fair-trading provisions of the CCA.
This may include assessing evidence, interviewing witnesses, briefing legal advisers as well as preparing and presenting updates and recommendations to the Enforcement Committee and Commission.
Possess a good, working understanding of the Competition and Consumer Act **** (Cth), including the Australian Consumer Law, or the ability to quickly attain this understanding.
Possess an ability to objectively and strategically assess information and potential evidence in a timely and efficient manner.
Have the ability to identify logical next steps and the most suitable resolution for investigations, including by administrative means or by court action and persuasively communicate the reasons for decisions and recommendations.
Have, or be able to quickly obtain, the Certificate IV in Government Investigations qualification as set out in the Public Services Package (PSP) for persons/officers working in operational roles undertaking government entity investigations.
Successful candidates at the APS5 level will demonstrate a greater degree of responsibility for delivery of outcomes and will work more independently on a range of investigations and projects.
EligibilityIn addition to meeting the Integrated Leadership Profile for the APS4 or APS5 classification, this role in particular requires:
An understanding of the Competition and Consumer Act **** (Cth) or demonstrated ability to understand, interpret and apply legislation and guidelines.
An ability to think strategically and research,



investigate and analyse issues to develop solutions and make recommendations in line with strategic objectives.
Well-developed drafting skills and demonstrated experience in written communication, including preparing quality documentation such as notices, correspondence, reports, internal papers and briefs, legal documents, and external-facing material such as consumer and industry guidance.
An ability to take initiative and use creative problem-solving techniques.
An ability to facilitate and support effective communication within teams, across work areas, and between senior leaders.
For certain analyst roles within the Retail and Supermarkets Branch, experience coding for statistical application; for example, using R and/or Python to analyse large and complex data sets and communicate the results.
The APS5 role in particular requires experience in:
Effectively engaging and working collaboratively with other people, including the ability to influence/persuade/inform/lead people.
Working in a flexible environment and adapting to meet immediate and future challenges.
Taking ownership, exercising sound judgement and working under limited direction to make reasonable decisions on complex issues

The following job specific criteria are also highly desirable:
Tertiary qualifications in law, economics, public policy or similar fields and/or relevant experience undertaking investigations or projects.
