About the Role
Panetta McGrath Lawyers is a growing Western Australian law firm with specialist teams across Health, Insurance, Criminal Defence, Employment & Workplace Relations and Commercial Law.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Bookkeeper/Accounts Officer to join our firm in Perth.
Reporting to the Directors and working closely with the Practice Manager and legal assistant team, this role offers excellent exposure across the full accounting cycle and the opportunity to take true ownership of the finance function within a boutique professional services firm.
You will be responsible for a broad range of accounting activities, from transactional processing and reconciliations through to trust account compliance, fixed assets, and month-end close activities.
This position is ideal for an bookkeeping / accounts professional who enjoys being hands-on, takes ownership of their work, and is looking to further develop their skills within a professional services environment.
You will have the support of the Directors, the Practice Manager, and access to the firm's external accountants and auditors as needed.
Full-time and part-time applicants will both be considered.
Key Responsibilities
Process accounts payable, including supplier invoices, payment runs, and credit card reconciliations
Process accounts receivable transactions and assist with collection activities
Manage daily banking activities and prepare bank reconciliations, including trust account reconciliations
Maintain general ledger accounts and prepare balance sheet reconciliations
Process journals, accruals, and prepayments
Support month-end and year-end close activities
Assist with BAS, IAS, PAYG and superannuation lodgements and reporting
Support cash flow reporting and finance administration activities
Assist with external audit requirements and statutory compliance obligations
Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analysis for management
Ensure corporate policies, internal controls, and finance procedures are followed.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Minimum 4 years experience in a bookkeeping or accounts role
Solid understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting
Experience supporting month-end close activities and BAS, IAS and PAYG preparation
Experience using Xero highly regarded
Experience working in a skilled services or law firm will be highly regarded
Trust accounting experience is an advantage (training provided)
Experience in a high-volume position
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Strong organisational and time management skills
Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
