The Role:
The Data Processor (Inshore Operations) is primarily responsible for the cleanup, QA/QC, and management of high-density spatial point clouds generated from inshore hydrographic and spatial survey systems.
While the primary day-to-day focus is routine point cloud data cleaning, the role provides opportunities to assist with broader post-processing workflows including backscatter processing, GNSS/Inertial navigation processing, charting and survey reporting.
Full internal training on specific hydrographic software suites and marine workflows will be provided.
Qualifications:
Any of the following (or equivalent practical experience):
Diploma, Certificate, or Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Spatial Science, GIS, or Geomatics.
Experience/qualifications in terrestrial laser scanning, LiDAR, or point cloud processing.
Qualifications in Marine Science or an allied spatial discipline.
Required Experience and Attributes:
Point Cloud Processing: Proven experience manipulating, cleaning, or editing 3D spatial point cloud data (e.g., multibeam bathymetry, terrestrial laser scan/LiDAR data, or photogrammetric point clouds).
Spatial Aptitude: A solid understanding of basic spatial concepts, coordinate reference systems, and digital data structures.
Detail-Oriented & Methodical: A thorough, structured approach to data handling and QA/QC across large volumes of data files.
Problem Solving: Ability to identify data anomalies, noise, and artifacts, with a logical approach to troubleshooting.
IT Competency: Sound general computer literacy and proficiency in standard desktop tools (Microsoft Office / Excel).
Desired Experience and Attributes:
Experience with terrestrial laser scanning software (e.g., Leica Cyclone, CloudCompare, Faro Scene) or bathymetric processing suites (e.g., QPS Qimera/QINSy, BeamworX, CARIS HIPS & SIPS).
Exposure to post-processing GNSS and/or Inertial Navigation System (INS) data (e.g., Applanix POSPac, NovAtel Waypoint).
Experience handling side-scan sonar or multibeam backscatter data.
Familiarity with GIS platforms such as ESRI ArcGIS Pro or QGIS.
Basic understanding of hydrographic or coastal surveying principles.
Candidates must be an Australian citizen or hold valid, unrestricted Australian working rights.
