We're looking for a motivated and experienced
Tug Master / Trainee Harvest Operator
to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working on the water, operating specialised equipment and being part of a close-knit team in a unique and rewarding environment.

About the Role
Reporting to the Hydrowood Operations Manager, you'll play a key role in the safe and efficient operation of our marine fleet and harvesting activities.
Your responsibilities will include:
· Operating Hydrowood vessels in accordance with survey requirements and maritime legislation.
· Skippering tug and support vessels and towing/pushing log barges.
· Supporting harvesting operations and vessel movements.
· Assisting with loading, unloading and handling harvested timber.
· Carrying out routine inspections, preventative maintenance and minor repairs.
· Diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults in remote environments.
· Operating GPS, sonar and other marine navigation systems.
· Maintaining accurate operational records and vessel logbooks.
· Working safely in accordance with Hydrowood's Safety Management System (SMS),



Environmental Management System (EMS) and AMSA requirements.
There will also be opportunities to develop your skills and receive training in Hydrowood's specialised timber harvesting operations.
About You
You are someone who:
· Has experience operating commercial vessels.
· Has experience towing or pushing barges.
· Enjoys hands-on mechanical work and fault finding.
· Works well independently and as part of a small team.
· Has a strong commitment to safety and environmental responsibility.
· Is adaptable, reliable and willing to work in a remote operating workplace.
· Is keen to learn new skills and develop into a specialised harvesting role.
Forestry experience is desirable but
not essential
—we're committed to providing training for the right candidate.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants should hold one or more of the following:
· NSCV Master <24 m (Master Class 5)
· Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 (MED 3)
· Current Driver Licence
· Workplace Level 2 First Aid
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
Highly regarded, but not essential:
· Excavator (LE) Licence
· Heavy machinery experience
· Feller Buncher competency
· Chainsaw competency
· ROV or underwater machine operation experience
· Marine maintenance experience




· Experience with sonar and GPS navigation systems
· Forestry or harvesting operations
Working With Hydrowood
This role is based at
Lake Pieman on Tasmania's West Coast
and typically operates on a
four-day roster (Monday to Thursday)
, with additional days, weekend work and extended hours as operational requirements dictate.
Preference may be given to applicants residing on Tasmania's West Coast or North-West Coast.
