The Construction team is highly experienced and advises on a diverse range of projects across Australia, including commercial, industrial and residential developments, mixed‐use projects, shopping centres, airports, mining, ports, hotels, water, renewable energy, transport and logistics infrastructure, and pipelines.
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for a Construction Associate (2‐3 PQE) to join this growing team. Working closely with a highly respected construction and projects partner and an experienced group of senior practitioners, you will gain exposure to sophisticated construction and infrastructure matters and enjoy strong mentoring and career progression opportunities.
This role will focus predominantly on back‐end construction and infrastructure matters (however you will still have exposure to front‐end matters), including:
Managing and assisting with construction disputes arising from major commercial, residential, infrastructure, energy and industrial projects
Advising clients on claims relating to variations, extensions of time, delay and disruption, defects, liquidated damages, payment disputes and contract termination
Preparing and responding to Security of Payment claims and adjudication applications
Assisting with negotiations, mediations, expert determinations, adjudications, arbitrations and court proceedings
Drafting pleadings, submissions, witness statements, expert briefs and other dispute‐related documentation
Reviewing project documents, contracts, correspondence and technical materials to assess risk and develop dispute strategies
Working closely with clients, consultants, experts and counsel to achieve commercial outcomes
Advising on risk management, dispute avoidance and project delivery issues throughout the lifecycle of construction projects
Supporting complex, high‐value disputes while developing increasing responsibility for matter management and client relationships
The role will also provide exposure to front‐end construction matters from time to time, offering a well‐rounded practice and excellent professional development opportunities.
About You
2–3 years' PQE in construction law, with exposure to both front‐end and back‐end matters or purely back‐end matters
Experience gained within a reputable top‐tier, mid‐tier or specialist construction practice
Demonstrated ability to manage matters from instruction through to completion
Strong commercial acumen and a solutions‐focused mindset
Excellent analytical, drafting and communication skills
A commitment to delivering exceptional client service and legal excellence
