Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation (MAC) represents the Ngarluma, Yindjibarndi, Mardudhunera, Yaburara and Wong-Goo-Tt-Oo peoples, the recognised Traditional Owners and Custodians of Murujuga.

Position Purpose
The Senior Heritage Advisor is a senior technical specialist within MAC's Heritage Research Team and plays a pivotal role in protecting one of the world's most significant Aboriginal cultural landscapes.
Working closely with the Heritage Research Manager, Traditional Owners, the Murujuga Circle of Elders, government agencies, researchers and industry partners, you will provide expert advice on cultural heritage management, heritage surveys, archaeological assessments, compliance, research and strategic planning.
This role combines technical excellence with leadership. You will mentor Heritage Advisors, contribute to organisational capability, lead complex heritage projects and help shape the future management of Murujuga's UNESCO World Heritage landscape.
This is a rare opportunity to influence nationally and internationally significant cultural heritage outcomes while working directly with Traditional Owners.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
Provide senior technical advice on Aboriginal cultural heritage management across Murujuga.
Lead complex heritage assessments and provide recommendations for heritage protection and management.
Review and provide quality assurance of heritage reports,



archaeological assessments and consultant deliverables.
Support the Heritage Research Manager in developing heritage strategies, policies and operational frameworks.
Act as the technical lead for significant heritage projects and initiatives.
Cultural Heritage Management
Lead the assessment, protection and management of Aboriginal cultural heritage across Murujuga.
Support implementation of the Murujuga Cultural Management Plan and World Heritage obligations.
Identify heritage risks and recommend practical management solutions.
Develop heritage management plans, research frameworks and monitoring programs.
Ensure cultural protocols are respected and embedded in all heritage activities.
Heritage Surveys and Field Leadership
Lead and coordinate cultural heritage surveys involving Traditional Owners.
Provide technical guidance during field investigations.
Oversee survey planning, logistics, recording methodologies and quality assurance.
Mentor Heritage Advisors and Rangers during fieldwork.
Identify opportunities for further research and long-term monitoring.
Compliance, Governance & Stakeholder Engagement
Lead MAC's heritage compliance activities under the Burrup Maitland Industrial Estates Agreement and other statutory agreements.
Develop and maintain productive relationships with industry proponents, consultants and government agencies.
Review approvals, management plans and technical documentation.
Represent MAC at meetings, workshops and stakeholder forums.
Contribute to organisational governance through high-quality reporting and advice.
Research, Data & Innovation
Oversee heritage databases, GIS information and spatial data management.
Drive continuous improvement in heritage recording systems and digital technologies.
Support archaeological and cultural heritage research projects.
Promote innovative approaches to heritage management and monitoring.
Leadership and Capability Development
Mentor and support Heritage Advisors and Rangers.
Share technical expertise across the Heritage Team.
Contribute to recruitment, induction and training of heritage staff.
Foster a collaborative,

Selection Criteria
Essential
Degree (Honours or higher) in Archaeology, Cultural Heritage Management, Anthropology or a related discipline.
Extensive experience in Aboriginal cultural heritage management and archaeological fieldwork.
Demonstrated experience leading cultural heritage surveys.
Strong understanding of Western Australian heritage legislation and regulatory frameworks.
Experience working collaboratively with Aboriginal communities and Traditional Owners.
Excellent report writing, analytical and stakeholder engagement skills.
Experience reviewing technical reports and providing specialist heritage advice.
Current C Class Driver's Licence.
Highly Regarded
Experience leading multidisciplinary heritage projects.
Advanced GIS and spatial data management skills.
Experience managing cultural heritage databases.
Knowledge of UNESCO World Heritage management.
Experience working within mining, infrastructure or environmental approval processes.
Experience supervising or mentoring heritage professionals.
