About Prominent Hill
Prominent Hill is a well-established copper‐gold operation within BHP's Minerals Australia portfolio, with a strong future and ongoing investment.
Located 650km north‐west of Adelaide, the site operates across underground and surface mining and is located on the traditional lands of the Antakirinja Matu-Yankunytjatjara people. Prominent Hill produces one of the highest grades of copper concentrate in the world.
A major shaft project is supporting underground expansion and extending mine life to at least ****, creating long-term opportunities across the operation.

About The Role
The Senior Backfill Engineer sits within the Technical Services department and provides leadership and subject matter expertise to support underground backfilling systems at Prominent Hill.
You will play a key role supporting Paste Fill and Rockfill operations, including backfill strategy, reticulation design, stope design interaction, and backfill performance optimisation.
This is an excellent opportunity to combine your team leadership background and technical expertise in backfill engineering within a collaborative, safety‐focused Technical Services environment.
The position is based at Prominent Hill on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Adelaide or Port Augusta.
In This Role You Will Be Responsible For
Reviewing and optimising paste fill mix designs based on exposure stability requirements and stope performanceMonitoring backfill performance, including strength testing, QA/QC results, and stope reconciliationsProviding technical input and governance for Paste Fill and Rockfill systemsDesign, review,
and optimisation of paste fill reticulation systems, including layout, operating pressures, and capacity considerationsUndertaking and reviewing paste fill flow modelling to support system performance, debottlenecking, and future planningDeveloping, reviewing, and maintaining backfill procedures, standards, and technical documentationSupporting investigations, risk assessments, and change management processes related to backfill systemsLead and coach engineers, uplift capability, and build a culture focused on qualityCompiling technical reports and providing expertise to support production performance analysis and business planningDrive collaboration with Geotechnical, Mine Planning, and Operations teams to ensure safe, effective backfill design and execution
About You
A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related disciplineExperience with underground mining backfill roles, Paste Fill and/or Rockfill systems, including reticulation design or flow modelling, is highly regardedFamiliarity with mining software (e.g. Deswik)Demonstrated experience in an underground or technical mining engineering roleStrong analytical and problem‐solving capability with a systems‐based approachProven ability to influence outcomes and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teamsWell-developed communication skills with an interest in providing technical leadership, support and solutions.Demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable and decision making.Effective and influential team leadership experience with proven change culture demonstrated.
