Forward Deployed AI Engineer Contract - 6months + Melbourne based About the opportunity: A leading Australian online business is scaling up its AI Business Transformation function and looking for a Forward Deployed AI Engineer to embed directly with business teams.
This is a high visibility, high agency role at the intersection of business diagnosis, workflow redesign and applied AI engineering, not a traditional back office build role.
You'll take raw business problems from discovery through build, evaluation, production adoption and measurable value, working alongside technology, data and compliance functions.
Sits within a growing AI Business Transformation team.
The role: Translate raw business needs into clear problem statements, baselines and delivery plans, working directly with business stakeholders Redesign workflows across people, AI agents and systems, including human oversight, confidence thresholds and escalation paths Prototype, build, test, harden and deploy AI-enabled workflows across enterprise systems, integrating models, data, APIs and human tasks Define evaluation harnesses, regression suites and observability so solutions are secure,



supportable and measurable in production Establish baselines and instrument metrics that prove real business value, not just AI usage or technical delivery What you'll bring: 5+ years delivering technology enabled business change, with hands-on experience designing and building AI-enabled solutions Practical, hands-on experience shipping AI-enabled applications, agents or intelligent workflows, including orchestration, RAG and context engineering Ability to reason about model behaviour, failure modes and evaluation strategies, and make trade-offs across quality, latency, cost, reliability and risk Comfortable working across Python and/or TypeScript, APIs, SQL, cloud environments and CI/CD Experience with evaluation strategies, guardrails, observability and AI lifecycle management What's on offer Daily Rate: Not disclosed Location: Melbourne CBD - Hybrid 1-3 office days Working in a new AI team with a business that's probably 6months ahead any other business in Australia in the AI game.
