Your new role
We have an opportunity for someone to join our Legal & Compliance team as Director – Public Law, Policy and Oversight on a 12-month, fixed term basis.
Reporting to the Executive Director – Legal & Compliance, the role is responsible for providing high-quality legal, compliance and strategic advice to IBAC officers.
This includes the Commissioner, Chief Executive Officer, Deputy Commissioners and others across the organisation.
The legislative remit is broad and includes the IBAC Act **** (Vic), and the Public Interest Disclosures Act **** (Vic).
The role also leads the team responsible for undertaking IBAC's external oversight obligations under various legislation, including the Crimes (Assumed Identities) Act **** (Vic), Sex Offenders Registration Act **** (Vic), Witness Protection Act ****, and Firearms Act **** (Vic).
The role includes people management and leadership accountabilities, leading a mix of lawyers and compliance officers and contributing to the leadership of the Legal & Compliance Division.
Key accountabilities include:
* Provide and manage a broad range of legal and compliance services, including the provision of comprehensive legal advice and strategic policy direction to IBAC's Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners, Senior Executives and others across the organisation on a range of issues pertaining to IBAC.
* Effectively engage and work with relevant internal and external stakeholders to deliver the work of the Branch.
* Provide leadership, supervision and mentoring to support the development and retention of senior and junior lawyers and compliance officers within the branch.

About you
We are looking for candidates with the following experience and capabilities:
* Bachelor of Laws or equivalent legal qualification from a recognised tertiary institution
* Significant experience in practicing in the area of public law, regulation or legislation (minimum 10 years practicing in a senior role)
* Significant people management experience
* Current practising certificate under the Legal Profession Uniform Law (or eligibility to acquire a practising certificate)
Citizenship – to be eligible for employment with IBAC, applicants must be an Australian citizen.
Security clearance - Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.
