Arup is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join our North Queensland Highways team in the beautiful, thriving city of Cairns.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead the delivery of transport infrastructure projects, applying your technical expertise across all project phases from feasibility and planning through to detailed design and construction support.
You will also play a important role in mentoring engineers, managing project teams, and assisting to strengthen client relationships to support the continued growth of our Roads and Streets business in North Queensland.
The Opportunity • Lead the technical delivery of transport infrastructure projects, driving excellence across multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs are fully integrated during development, and design reviews are completed delivered prior to milestone submissions to a high standard of quality.
• Manage and deliver transport projects across feasibility, planning, business case development, preliminary design, detailed design, and construction support phases.
• Mentor, train, and support junior engineers while contributing to team performance, capability development, and staff engagement.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, government agencies, contractors, and industry stakeholders across Queensland, with a particular focus on the Cairns and North Queensland region.
• Contribute to business development activities including client engagement,
proposal preparation, contract negotiations, project management, and strategic market positioning.

Is this role right for you?
• A Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), Chartered Engineer status (CPEng), and Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) accreditation.
• Experience leading highway and transport infrastructure projects, including strong technical knowledge of Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) or similar interstate standards, and Austroads standards and guidelines.
• Demonstrated success managing multidisciplinary project teams, delivering projects on time and within budget, and providing sustainable, client-focused solutions.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence outcomes and build trusted partnerships.
• Strong commercial and strategic acumen, including experience in project management, business development, resource planning, and mentoring developing engineers.
