Vaccinator

This is a fixed term appointment for up to 3 months with
possible extension, commencing as soon as possible.
Part time
arrangements will be considered for suitable
applicants.
The opportunity is available for:
Registered Nurse (ANF Level 1)
Enrolled Nurse
Aboriginal Health Practitioner.
The increment will be determined based on the successful
applicant's skills, knowledge and experience relevant to the
role.
Eligibility to Apply
: This temporary
position is to be filled from within WA Health through secondment,
temporary deployment (acting) or temporary contract arrangements.
Current WA Health employees, including permanent, fixed-term and
casual employees, are eligible to apply.
Applicants must seek
conditional approval for release from their current Line Manager
prior to applying.
About the Position
These Vaccinator positions will support the vaccination response
to the WA diphtheria outbreak across the Kimberley, Pilbara,
Goldfields and Midwest regions.
Working as part of a
multidisciplinary team and in partnership with local health
services, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations and
community stakeholders, vaccinators will contribute to improving
access to vaccination and protecting communities at increased risk
of diphtheria.
The primary responsibility of the role is to safely administer
diphtheria-containing vaccines in accordance with the National




Immunisation Program, WA Immunisation Schedule, Australian
Immunisation Handbook, WACHS policies and relevant clinical
protocols.
Vaccinators will also undertake pre-vaccination
assessment, obtain informed consent, provide post-vaccination
advice, accurately document vaccinations, maintain vaccine cold
chain requirements, and support the delivery of vaccination clinics
across a range of settings, including rural and remote
communities.
This role provides an opportunity to contribute to a significant
public health response while working collaboratively with local
teams and community partners to support improved health outcomes
across regional Western Australia.
Essential Requirements
Current registration as a Registered Nurse, Enrolled Nurse
or Aboriginal Health Practitioner with the Australian Health
Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Current evidence of annual completion of the mandatory WA
Health online education modules for immunisation providers,
including:
Immunisation Update
Cold Chain Management.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Australian Immunisation
Handbook, including the vaccine-preventable disease
chapters relating to:
diphtheria
pertussis
tetanus.
Current competency in:
cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
recognition and management of anaphylaxis.




Competence and confidence using relevant information
systems, such as the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR),
Community Health Information System (CHIS) and/or VaccinateWA,
or similar.
Willingness and ability to complete any required cultural
capability or cultural safety training relevant to the
communities and cultural or language groups where deployment
occurs.
Willingness and flexibility to undertake required travel,
including travel to small communities by 4WD or small aircraft,
and to adapt to accommodation arrangements where options may be
limited in some communities and towns.
Desirable
Experience working and/or living in rural and remote
settings.
Experience working collaboratively with Aboriginal
communities, with an understanding of culturally safe and
respectful healthcare practices.
