Mackay Regional Council is seeking a skilled Sous Chef to support the delivery of high-quality food services across major venues including the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre and BB Print Stadium.
About the Role
Working under the direction of the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef, the Sous Chef will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of busy commercial kitchens across Council venues.
This position will assist with kitchen operations, food preparation, product ordering, stock control, and the supervision of Line Chefs, Kitchenhands and apprentices.
You will also assist with off-site and external kitchen operations for events, functions and venue service delivery.
This role requires flexibility to work days, nights and weekends across an any 5 out of 7 roster.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef with the day-to-day running of kitchen operations.
Prepare and deliver high-quality food for venue operations, functions, events and external catering requirements.
Assist with ordering products, stock control and maintaining efficient kitchen supplies.
Supervise and guide Kitchenhands, Line Chefs and apprentices.
Operate and support external kitchens as required.
Maintain high standards of food safety, presentation, cleanliness and professionalism.
Contribute to a positive team culture and support smooth kitchen service during busy periods.
About You
You will bring proven experience in a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment, with exposure to a range of cuisines and service styles.
You will be confident managing competing priorities, supporting a team, and maintaining quality standards under pressure.
We are looking for someone who demonstrates strong time management, professionalism, a genuine passion for food, and a commitment to teamwork, service excellence and supporting successful venue operations.
Essential Requirements
Certificate III in Commercial Cookery.
Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.
Current C Class Driver Licence.
Demonstrated experience working across several cuisines in a commercial kitchen environment.
Ability to work days, nights and weekends across an any 5 out of 7 roster.
