About the role:
This is your chance to work in a challenging and fast-paced emergency services environment dealing with topics that regularly lead the news of the day.
Media and Community Engagement (MCE) within Partnership and Safe Communities - leads Victoria Police's internal and external facing communications to support the organisation's strategy to reduce crime and harm and build trust and confidence with the community.
The group's key focus areas are:
The role will focus on launching new initiatives, promoting positive policing stories and events and respond to often complicated and complex media enquiries.
You will work alongside senior police officers covering various portfolios and high-interest issues.
You will also be required to establish strong external stakeholder relationships with our partners to ensure effective, co-ordinated communications.
With pressure on resources and changes in media consumption, the Media and Community Engagement group must innovate and adapt the ways we communicate.
Prioritising impact, reach and influence requires a data-led approach that is constantly evaluating the strategies we use for connecting with both our internal and external audiences.
Your duties will include:
Liaising with journalists
Managing complex and sensitive issues for the organisation
Writing media releases, talking points and media responses
Developing and implementing communication plans for your allocated portfolios
Organising interviews, media opportunities and press conferences
Providing high level advice to police on media matters
As the successful applicant, you will have:
Enthusiasm and a proactive story gathering attitude
Well established journalistic and/or public relations experience
Excellent written and oral presentation skills




The ability to develop and implement proactive media strategies
Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro would be highly regarded
A relevant tertiary qualification in public relations, communications, journalism or related field would be highly regarded.
Requirements and relevant information:
One (1) x full-time, fixed term positions available, from commencement date to 3 September ****.
This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
Successful candidates will be required to possess a current Victorian Driver Licence and hold or qualify for an appropriate Victoria Police driving authority within three (3) months.
Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
