About the Role

Heritage Consultant – Anthropologist
position offers the prospect to work alongside Traditional Owners, Aboriginal Corporations, communities and project stakeholders to facilitate positive outcomes for Aboriginal cultural heritage protection and management.

The position will require a combination of skills in office-based project management, ethnographic fieldwork, cultural values assessments, stakeholder engagement and high-quality reporting.
The role requires strong organisational and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, flexibility, adaptability and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team to meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality outcomes.
The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to engage respectfully with Traditional Owners, Aboriginal Corporations,



clients and other key stakeholders to facilitate effective project outcomes and foster positive relationships.
Being based in Noongar Boodja (south-west WA), the position will allow the successful candidate to live and work in one of the most culturally significant and naturally beautiful regions of Western Australia.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct ethnographic surveys, cultural values assessments and Aboriginal cultural heritage investigations.
Engage respectfully with Traditional Owners, Aboriginal Corporations and community representatives throughout project delivery.
Record, document and manage cultural heritage information and field data.
Prepare high-quality anthropological reports and project documentation.
Assist with project planning, coordination and field logistics.
Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, communities and key stakeholders.
Ensure field activities comply with ALS policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams to achieve high-quality outcomes and meet project deadlines.
Essential Criteria
To be considered for this role, you must have:
A minimum of an undergraduate qualification in Anthropology, Social Anthropology or a closely related discipline.
Experience undertaking ethnographic fieldwork, Aboriginal cultural heritage projects or community consultation.
Familiarity with relevant State and Commonwealth Aboriginal cultural heritage legislation.
Demonstrated experience preparing professional reports and documentation.
A valid manual C Class Driver's Licence.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and within a collaborative team environment.




Provision of a current CV, including at least two professional referees.
Desirable Criteria
Experience working in the South West of Western Australia.
Experience undertaking Cultural Values Assessments or similar heritage assessments.
Experience working with Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Corporations.
Experience working on infrastructure, mining, government or renewable energy projects.
4WD experience.
Residing in, or willing to relocate to, the South West of Western Australia.
