To deliver on our vision, we're looking for a Business Development Managerwith experience in residential mortgages.
The Role
As a Lending Specialist, you will manage customer leads assigned to you, through to settlement — with accountability for both customer outcomes and loan settlement targets.
This is a sales-driven role that requires a strong balance of empathy, persistence and commercial acumen.
Many customers who come to Midkey have already been declined by banks or other lenders.
As a result, they may arrive financially exhausted, frustrated, and cautious.
Your role is to quickly build trust, deeply understand their situation, and confidently position Midkey as a credible and positive solution.
You will:
Respond to inbound and outbound customer leads
Diagnose customers' financial challenges and objectives
Structure tailored lending solutions that improve cash flow and long-term outcomes
Clearly explain product benefits, constraints and risks
Prepare and present credit submissions
Guide customers through Midkey's digital loan application and documentation process
Actively manage your pipeline to achieve conversion, settlement and budget targets
Strive to improve work processes
Communicate with external partners eg valuers, other financial institutions.
The role requires flexibility across Monday to Friday and close collaboration with a high-energy, growth-focused team.
What success looks like in this role
Successful Lending Specialists at Midkey combine high-energy sales capability with robust credit judgement.
You will be comfortable:
Working to clear sales targets, settlement budgets and KPIs
Persistently following up leads while maintaining a caring, customer-first approach




Thinking holistically about a customer's financial position
Restructuring existing debt (e.g. reducing home loans to improve cash flow)
Introducing lending or financial concepts customers may not have previously considered
Collaborating with other internal departments
This role suits someone who genuinely enjoys solving complex problems, helping customers move forward, and taking ownership of outcomes from first call to settlement.
Required candidate capabilities
Strong sales mindset with accountability for pipeline and settlement outcomes
Passion for helping customers find practical lending solutions
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build trust quickly
Solid credit judgement and attention to detail
Ability to balance empathy with commercial decision-making
High energy, resilience and persistence
Collaborative team player with a continuous improvement mindset
Comfortable working in a fast-growing, evolving business
Preferred experience
Retail mortgage lending sales and customer service experience
Practical working knowledge of:
NCCP and Responsible Lending
Privacy Act
AML / CTF requirements
Previously held delegated credit authority
Experience in:
Business banking
Private banking
Specialist, non-bank or private lending
Small business or complex credit environments
