About the work unit / facility
Ayr Health Service is a Level 3 rural hospital located in the heart of North Queensland and forms part of the Townsville Hospital and Health Service. The facility provides a comprehensive range of acute, community, and allied health services to the local community and surrounding regions.
The service includes a 28-bed inpatient ward caring for adult, paediatric, and low-risk maternity patients, a 24-hour Emergency Department, and perioperative services supporting general surgery and gastroenterology. In addition, Ayr Health Service delivers a broad range of community health programs, including child health and chronic disease management services.
Patients also benefit from regular specialist outreach clinics in areas such as cardiology, respiratory medicine, renal care, and paediatrics, alongside expanding virtual care services that enhance access to specialist healthcare closer to home.

About your opportunity
As an Assistant in Nursing, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team to support the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care. Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, and in collaboration with Enrolled Nurses and other healthcare professionals, you will assist patients with their care needs while promoting dignity, safety, and wellbeing.
You will contribute to a positive patient experience by providing compassionate support and assisting with nursing care activities in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Practice Standards and organisational policies and procedures.
This is an excellent opportunity for a caring and motivated individual to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients while developing their skills within a supportive rural healthcare environment.
Applicants who meet one of the following criteria are considered highly desirable:
- Hold a relevant Certificate III in Aged Care, Health Service Assistant or equivalent, or
- Hold a relevant Certificate III in Aged Care, Health Service Assistant or equivalent, or
- Successful completion of the first semester full-time equivalent Diploma of Nursing course including all theoretical and clinical competencies.
