Position purpose
The Chef is responsible for the planning, preparation and production of all food products at the venue as assigned. Key responsibilities include maximising profitable food sales with a focus on customer satisfaction, producing and maintaining superior standards of food within the controlled cost parameters, developing and training kitchen team members, thereby contributing to the profitability, success and growth of the food business.
Main tasks
Core objectives include:
- Ensure the business's assets are used according to their function in order to protect their value.
- Maintain and ensure all equipment is in good working order.
- Record all breakages, damages and loss of assets, using the appropriate Incident Report Form.
- Adhere to purchasing budgets issued by management.
- Carry out End of Month procedures and any other duties where directed.
- Be pro-active in controlling costs.
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers.
- Ensure that all goods are correctly received in accordance with the quantities and quality stated on the invoices and specifications are accounted for and properly stored.
- Maintain appropriate security systems for all risk areas, including stock protection and lock up.
- Ensure that staff are aware of appropriate food handling, occupational health and safety, responsible service of alcohol and emergency procedures.
- To take total control of the final presentation and delivery of all food items as necessary.
- To ensure that display cabinets are always clean, fresh and that food is presented in an enticing manner.
- To ensure all cleaning schedules are completed and maintained consistently.
- To ensure all food compliance reporting is completed and maintained consistently.
- To assist in the smooth day to day running of the venue's food areas.
- Ensuring all staff are monitoring the quality of food and beverages being delivered.
- Liaise with Restaurant employees regarding the availability of menu items, additions to the menu and any relevant changes.
- Ensure all food produced is in line with kitchen recipes and standards.
- Prepare and cook all food orders with a sense of urgency.
- Check all food is stored and handled as per current food health and hygiene regulations.
- Ensure that work area, equipment and section is always kept clean,
in accordance with current health and hygiene regulations.
- Monitor food preparation and wastage costs, control these by following efficient preparation methods and standard recipes.
- To work with the company's Head Chef to continually improve food and customer service.
- Ensure strict stock rotation and correct storage procedures are used to minimize loss and wastage.
- To work with management to provide a stimulating and challenging working environment to assist all staff to develop to their full potential.
- To liaise professionally with relevant parents, patrons and staff.
- To submit and ensure the required documentation is maintained, as needed, in order to receive potential Funding grants.
- To create a warm, caring and enjoyable environment for all children and parents within the Centre or who may potentially book a function within the Centre.
- Comply with The Jungle Tribe's Terms and Conditions.
- Actively participate in any potential future Accreditation process.
- Uphold and promote the Policies of The Jungle Tribe.

Other duties
- Fulfil other duties as required by management and other department personnel as requested/required.
- Maintain a high level of product and service knowledge in order to explain and sell services and facilities to clients.
- Communicate in an appropriate manner, relative to employees, suppliers and guest contacts.
- Develop high levels of customer service to ensure that the customers' expectations are met and where possible exceeded.
- Provide initiatives to improve operations at the venue, and profitability.
- Identifying opportunities within the existing business and exploring new business ideas to grow the business further.
- Create a learning environment for all staff.
- Participate in Personal Development activities and training opportunities provided internally and externally by The Jungle Tribe.
- Be welcoming to visitors to the Centre and positively promote The Jungle Tribe within the community.
- Attend staff meetings and training opportunities that are provided.
- Assist Management in carrying out any in-service training.
- Report any identifiable risk to Management so immediate action can be taken to ensure a safe work setting for children and staff.
