Your Opportunity

As the Studio Technician you will be responsible for providing technical support to teaching teams within Education, Land Management & The Arts, Visual Arts and contribute to the operation of the organisation’s art and ceramic studios to enable them to be used productively and effectively and in accordance with legislative requirements by a variety of class groups.

This position reports to the Business Manager

This is a Casual opportunity

Casual OO2 - Salary: $38.99 - $42.15 per Hour

The position will be based primarily at Cairns campus however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.

Key Responsibilities

- Live a safety culture, lead by example and support the Health Safety and Environment Management System to create a TAFE Queensland North-wide safety culture.
- Assist staff and students utilising the studio space to enable teaching objectives to be achieved by setting up equipment and materials for practical classes and check for effective operation prior to class.
- Assist teaching staff and students with the safe use of equipment and materials in class.
- Dispose of any hazardous materials, in accordance with Australian Standards.
- Maintain Art and Ceramic Studios in a clean and tidy state, including necessary cleaning of equipment.




- Ensure necessary consumables are available for class use, including stocktake and organisation of stores.
- Report any maintenance issues as they arise and ensure they are followed up with appropriate staff.
- Monitor, support and assist in maintaining secure studio environments, ensuring compliance with Work Health and Safety legislation and relevant Australian Standards, including undertaking safe ceramics studio operations such as kiln loading and unloading, clay recycling, operation of pug mills and related equipment.
- Contribute to the achievement of TAFE Queensland North’s quality policies by encouraging an environment where high quality of work is achieved and is supported by the adherence of quality system documentation.
- Contribute to the success of transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the established values of Showing Initiative, Working Together, Focusing on our Customer and Taking Responsibility.

How you will be assessed

The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities: * A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of working in an art studio space.

- Knowledge of Work, Health and Safety legislation and Australian Standards as they apply in a studio environment.
- Knowledge of the use and maintenance requirements of equipment and instruments used in art and ceramic studios.
- Proven ability to work as part of a team while remaining flexible and adaptable to organise and prioritise own workload and apply well developed organisational skills to tasks or projects.
- High level of communication and client service skills to work collaboratively with stakeholders and colleagues to achieve outstanding client service.

Highly Desirable Requirements
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
