About the role:

Join the Progress Rail Service team and play a key role in maintaining and supporting our locomotive fleet. As a Locomotive Maintainer, you will be responsible for servicing, repairing, modifying and providing technical support for locomotives to ensure they operate safely and efficiently.

This includes:

Carrying out scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on locomotives and equipment

Diagnosing faults and troubleshooting mechanical or electrical issues

Reading and interpreting technical drawings and maintenance documentation

Completing preventative maintenance and repairs on rolling stock, wagons, plant, and facilities

Maintaining accurate service and maintenance records

Providing recommendations to improve operational efficiency and equipment reliability

Working collaboratively with the maintenance team while also being able to work independently





Participating in ongoing training and development opportunities

About you:

Ability to read, comprehend and apply technical drawings.

High level of communication and interpersonal skills.

High level of problem-solving skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

Ability and willingness to further your knowledge and skills with additional training.

Knowledge and understanding of diesel/electric locomotive engines and its associated equipment is preferable.

Skills and experience:

Experience in a heavy maintenance environment

Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills

Ability to read and understand technical drawings

Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Strong organisational and record-keeping abilities

A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to work with minimal supervision

Experience with locomotives, freight maintenance, or rail service activities - desirable

Knowledge of diesel-electric locomotive engines and associated equipment - desirable
