Remuneration: $34.10 to $49.29 per hour + superannuation + salary packaging

Hours Per Week: 24 hours per week

Location: Inverell District Hospital - Kamilaroi Country

About The Role

The Aboriginal Health Worker (AHW) supports Aboriginal women, babies and families by providing culturally safe care, health information and education throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. Working in partnership with the midwife and multidisciplinary team, the AHW supports informed decision-making, care coordination, and referrals to appropriate health and community services. The position reports to the Maternity Unit Manager.

Where You’ll Be Working

You will be part of a small, dedicated team consisting of a Midwife and an Aboriginal Health Worker, working in partnership with the Maternity Unit to support Aboriginal women, babies and families. Based at the Inverell Community Health Centre, the role includes both clinic-based care and home visits across Inverell and surrounding communities. The recently refurbished facility provides a modern, welcoming and comfortable setting for staff,



women and their families.

About You

We're looking for an Aboriginal Health Worker who has strong connections with, and an understanding of, the local Aboriginal community. You'll be a compassionate communicator with good computer skills, who enjoys working as part of a small, supportive team and is committed to providing culturally safe care for Aboriginal women and families throughout their pregnancy journey.

This role offers comprehensive orientation and ongoing education, with support to complete relevant qualifications. You'll be well supported by the local maternity team and experienced clinicians who provide both on-site and remote clinical support. The position is based in a modern office and clinic environment, with regular working days of Monday to Wednesday.

Requirements

Holds or aspires to hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a minimum Certificate III health qualification in the area of care in which the Aboriginal Health Worker works.
