Applications are invited for the position of Head of History at Waverley College. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled, innovative and experienced educational leader to join a high performing and collegial team.

About the College

Waverley College, established in 1903, is a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition catering for boys from Years 5-12 across two campuses in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs. The College is committed to developing innovative learning, formation and wellbeing programs that enable young men to flourish across their spiritual, cognitive, social, emotional, cultural, and physical dimensions.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Curriculum, The Head of History is responsible for coordinating and implementing all facets of the History Curriculum across Years 7 - 12. The Head of History oversees the teaching and learning practices of the department and of all departmental staff acting as a representative point of communication with the College Leadership Team.

Key responsibilities include

- Developing subject related curriculum and ensures the correct delivery of curriculum.
- Developing, implementing and evaluating teaching programs to meet Syllabus outcomes
- Ensuring Assessment programs and the conduct of Assessment tasks comply with NESA and College Policy
- Consulting with the Director of Business Services and the Director of Curriculum to formulate and manage the departmental budget
- Overseeing and managing the day-to-day activities of departmental staff, including wellbeing and pastoral care




- Providing mentoring, coaching and professional development to staff
- Ensuring that the care and welfare of students is always promoted
- Supporting students by liaising with Heads of House, the Learning Support Department and the Senior Studies & Careers Coordinator

Requirements

- Loyalty to the ethos of the College and the Edmund Rice Charter and will demonstrably enact College Policies and support the College Leadership Team and Principal
- Hold Relevant degree qualification
- Be accredited at NESA’s Proficient Teacher Level 5
- Possess High level subject knowledge & In-depth and demonstrable knowledge of the AITSL standards
- Maintain Current Teacher Registration
- Keep abreast of statutory requirements in curriculum expressed by NESA and other professional bodies.
- Hold currency with specific subject teaching trends, best practice and the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) regulations and expectations
- Possess high computer literacy in a Mac setting
