The Opportunity
Are you a senior network security specialist who enjoys getting hands-on with complex enterprise environments while also providing technical leadership?
We are looking for an experienced Principal Technical Specialist – Network Security / Firewalls to join a major enterprise cyber security uplift and firewall replacement program.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key technical role across a large-scale environment, working with leading security technologies including Check Point, Palo Alto, Cisco and F5.
While the role involves providing senior technical direction, it is not a pure architecture position. You will remain hands-on, solving complex technical challenges, leading implementation activities and helping shape secure, reliable enterprise network environments.
What You'll Be Doing
You will have the opportunity to:
- Lead the end-to-end deployment, replacement, upgrade and configuration of Check Point firewalls.
- Provide specialist technical support across Palo Alto enterprise security solutions.
- Support, maintain and optimise firewall environments to ensure security, availability and performance.
- Integrate firewall solutions with Cisco routing and switching infrastructure.
- Work with F5 LTM, GTM and WAF technologies.
- Manage and optimise firewall rule bases using AlgoSec or comparable Network Security Policy Management tools.
- Monitor firewall health and performance using SolarWinds or similar platforms.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and Level 3 technical support.
- Work collaboratively with project teams, operational teams, technology vendors, suppliers and systems integrators.
- Develop high-quality technical documentation,
including solution designs, configuration artefacts, implementation plans, test plans, ICT change plans and rollback procedures.
- Provide technical leadership throughout firewall replacement and upgrade activities.
- Support the transition of newly implemented technologies into operational environments.
- Provide strategic technical advice on network security technologies, capabilities and emerging requirements.
About You
You will be a highly experienced network security professional who enjoys combining deep technical expertise with leadership and problem-solving.
Ideally, you will bring:
- Extensive hands-on experience with Check Point firewall technologies, including builds, replacements, upgrades, troubleshooting and policy optimisation.
- Strong practical experience with Palo Alto technologies in enterprise environments.
- Strong Cisco routing and switching knowledge, particularly in relation to firewall integration.
- Experience with F5 LTM, GTM and WAF.
- Experience with AlgoSec or an equivalent firewall policy/rule-base management platform.
- Experience using SolarWinds or comparable monitoring and reporting tools.
- Strong knowledge of security networking technologies, proxies and secure web gateways.
- Demonstrated experience providing advanced troubleshooting and third-level support within complex enterprise ICT environments.
- A solid understanding of cyber security standards, change management and service management practices.
- Experience working with ITIL processes,
including incident, problem, change and configuration management.
- Strong technical documentation and solution-design capabilities.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical teams, projects, operations and external technology partners.
- The ability to provide technical direction and mentoring to other technical specialists while continuing to work hands-on.
