Allen and Clarke Consulting – Melbourne VIC
You’re confident with AI tools and understand how to build effective AI-assisted workflows, but your real strength is helping others use them well. You can take something that feels technical or unfamiliar and turn it into a practical way of working that people understand, trust and adopt.
Allen + Clarke is a New Zealand and Australian management consultancy of around 65 people. We work with government agencies, community organisations and businesses across Australia, Aotearoa and the Pacific on strategy, evaluation, and complex social and public sector problems. We give a damn about the work and the communities it affects.
The role
This is a hands-on AI capability role combining client delivery, practical AI application and people enablement.
At least 65% of your time will be spent on billable client work, applying AI tools to support consulting delivery. The rest will be spent supporting our Group AI Manager on Allen + Clarke’s AI automation and agent-building programme, as well as helping to build AI capability across our teams.
Day to day, you will work alongside consultants to reframe problems for AI-assisted delivery, apply language models and automation tools to live client work, and check outputs carefully against the evidence and the brief. You’ll help teams identify where AI can genuinely improve the way we approach a project and then work with them to put that into practice.
You’ll also play an important role in helping our people become more capable and confident AI users. That means coaching colleagues through real use cases, sharing practical techniques, and turning what we learn from client delivery into approaches that can be used across the organisation.
What we are looking for
We are looking for someone with at least 1–2 years of professional experience in an AI-focused role, where applying AI to real business problems and helping others use AI effectively have been meaningful parts of the job.
This is not an entry-level AI role.
We’re looking for someone who has already applied AI in a skilled environment and understands how to turn AI tools into reliable, practical ways of working.
Specifically, we want someone who:
Has at least 1–2 years of qualified experience applying generative AI, AI-assisted workflows or automation to real business or client problems.
Has experience training, coaching or supporting others to build confidence and capability with AI.
Can understand a business problem, identify where AI can add value, and translate that into a practical solution or workflow.
Has hands‑on experience with tools such as Claude, including building skills, agents or workflows, and using AI to analyse and synthesise real information.
Is a strong communicator and collaborator who can explain AI clearly, work through ambiguity and build credibility with clients and colleagues.
Experience with APIs, cloud platforms such as Azure, automation tools or MCP connectors is desirable but not essential. We want someone who is technically confident and able to build with AI.
Above all, we’re looking for someone who combines practical AI capability with strong people skills. You should be as comfortable helping a consultant improve how they work with AI as you are building or refining the workflow that enables it.
Why this role
This is a genuine opportunity to apply your AI experience to real client work with real stakes, while helping others become more capable and confident using AI. You’ll work directly with consultants, using AI to solve practical problems and improve how work is delivered.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both sides of AI adoption: building practical solutions and helping people understand, use and get value from them.
You’ll also work closely with our Group AI Manager on Allen + Clarke’s automation and agent-building programme, helping to shape how we build and scale AI capability across the organisation.
Working in the office
This is a permanent, Melbourne-based role. We work in the office three days a week because good consulting is built on relationships, and the fastest learning happens alongside the people you work with.
