National Sales Manager – Australia & New Zealand
Location: Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane, with extensive travel across Australia and New Zealand
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary: Competitive base salary + performance-based incentive
The Opportunity - We are seeking an ambitious and commercially driven National Sales Manager to take ownership of sales and business development across Australia and New Zealand for a leading international provider of packaging automation, strapping, wrapping and load‑securing solutions.
This is a genuine hands‑on, business development-focused opportunity for an experienced sales professional who enjoys hunting for new business, developing strategic customer relationships and taking ownership of a national territory.
You will be responsible for growing new and existing business across a broad range of industries, including manufacturing, logistics and distribution, construction materials, paper, printing and packaging.
The role will initially operate as a standalone senior sales position, with full ownership of the Australia and New Zealand territory. As the business continues to grow, there is a clear opportunity for the position to evolve into a Head of Sales role, including responsibility for building and leading a sales team.
About the RoleReporting to the Director of Sales & Business Development APAC, you will be responsible for developing and executing the sales strategy across Australia and New Zealand while personally driving revenue growth.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Develop and execute the sales strategy for Australia and New Zealand in line with broader APAC objectives.
- Take ownership of annual revenue, gross margin and profitability targets.
- Identify, pursue and secure new business opportunities while developing and protecting existing key accounts.
- Promote a portfolio of industrial packaging machinery, automation solutions, consumables, load‑securing systems, spare parts and services.
- Manage the full sales cycle from prospecting and lead generation through to technical clarification, quotation, negotiation and close.
- Build strong relationships with customers, senior decision makers, distributors, agents, system integrators and strategic partners.
- Manage sales projects from initial enquiry through to delivery and final payment.
- Conduct customer meetings, site visits, product demonstrations and technical discussions.
- Prepare quotations, project calculations, sales forecasts and competitor analysis.
- Maintain accurate CRM records and provide reliable sales pipeline and forecast information.
- Develop market, customer, competitor and product intelligence to identify opportunities and inform sales strategy.
- Represent the business at trade shows, industry events and relevant industry functions.
- Work collaboratively with international technical and sales teams on complex projects, technical requirements, factory visits and pre‑acceptance testing.
- Work closely with local warehousing, operations and service teams to ensure successful delivery, installation and after‑sales support.
- Collaborate with marketing and product teams on campaigns, market development and product launches.
- As the business grows, contribute to the recruitment, development and leadership of the sales team.
About You -You will be a proven sales professional with a strong new business development and key account management background, ideally within industrial machinery, packaging, automation, manufacturing or a technically driven B2B environment.
You will bring:
- 7+ years' experience in business development, B2B sales and/or key account management.
- A proven track record of winning recent business and consistently achieving revenue targets.
- A strong hunter mentality with the drive and resilience to build a territory from the ground up.
- Commercial acumen and the ability to identify and convert new opportunities.
- The confidence to operate autonomously while collaborating effectively with international teams.
- The ability to understand technical products and translate technical solutions into clear customer benefits.
- Strong negotiation, communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent relationship‑building skills with customers and key stakeholders.
- A methodical approach to pipeline management, forecasting and CRM utilisation.
- Strong Microsoft Office and CRM capability.
- A team‑oriented mindset with the potential and ambition to step into a sales leadership position as the business grows.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Marketing, Engineering or a related discipline is advantageous.
- Excellent written and verbal English. Additional languages will be highly regarded.
- Full Australian working rights and a current driver's licence.
- The flexibility and willingness to travel extensively throughout Australia and New Zealand, with occasional international travel as required.
