Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Data & Integration Engineer for a Canberra-based role supporting Defence projects and customers.

This is a pivotal position within the Operations Team, offering the opportunity to work at the intersection of data engineering, analytics, systems integration and emerging technologies. You will play a key role in transforming complex operational data into actionable insights, enabling informed decision-making for Defence users in mission-critical environments.

Working closely with project managers, engineers, software developers and Defence stakeholders, you will design and implement data integration solutions, optimise data workflows, and contribute to the delivery of innovative capabilities across a diverse project portfolio.

As a senior member of the team, you will also provide technical leadership, mentor other engineers, engage directly with customers, and contribute to ongoing business growth through your expertise and industry knowledge.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Transform Defence data into actionable insights that support operational success and informed decision-making.
- Design, build and manage data integration pipelines across multiple systems and platforms.
- Integrate and process data from disparate sources, ensuring information is accessible, accurate and operationally relevant.
- Utilise low-code and no-code integration tools such as Node-RED, Apache NiFi and related technologies to develop and maintain workflows.
- Structure, cleanse and transform data for reporting, analytics, dashboards and visualisation platforms.
- Apply business rules and data mapping to ensure data quality, consistency and integrity.




- Configure and integrate software systems to enable seamless interoperability and information exchange.
- Collaborate with IT and development teams to ensure integration solutions meet both technical and business requirements.
- Integrate AI and machine learning services into data workflows to enhance automation, classification, prediction and insight generation.
- Ensure transformed data is indexed and searchable within operational systems and reporting environments.
- Participate in customer-facing workshops, consultation activities and technical engagements.
- Support software feature development, testing activities and product improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with globally distributed engineering teams to solve technical challenges and enhance product capabilities.
- Gather customer feedback and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and product roadmap discussions.
- Provide mentoring, guidance and technical leadership to engineers within the team.
- Support project delivery outcomes, ensuring tasks are completed within agreed scope, schedule and quality expectations.
- Remain up to date with emerging technologies and industry best practice across data engineering, integration and analytics.

Education / Certifications Required

- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
- NV1 Security Clearance
- Australian Citizenship is essential.

Knowledge / Skills Required

- Significant experience as a Senior Data Engineer, Data Integration Engineer, Data Specialist or similar senior technical role.
- Strong technical background across data engineering, data science, analytics and information systems.
- Demonstrated experience integrating complex datasets and systems within enterprise environments.
- Experience with data integration technologies such as Apache NiFi, Node-RED or comparable integration platforms.
- Proven capability implementing data flows between operational systems, analytics environments and business intelligence platforms.
- Experience working with APIs, web services and AI/ML-enabled data processing solutions.
- Strong understanding of JSON, XML and related data formats.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS,



Azure or similar technologies.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic project environment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Well-developed technical writing and documentation capabilities.
- Ability to operate across both strategic planning and hands‑on technical delivery.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring, coaching and providing technical leadership to engineering teams.
- Defence, National Security or Federal Government experience will be highly regarded.
