About the role

The Adviser, Indigenous Engagement plays an important role in strengthening AUSMASA’s relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, organisations and stakeholders across the mining and automotive sectors.

Reporting to the National Indigenous Engagement Manager, the role combines culturally respectful stakeholder engagement with policy, data coordination, analysis and reporting responsibilities.

The Adviser will coordinate engagement and consultation activities, maintain accurate stakeholder information and capture community feedback consistently. They will analyse qualitative data, identify key themes and emerging issues, and interpret relevant government policies to support evidence-informed advice.





By translating stakeholder intelligence and policy information into clear reports, briefings and practical recommendations, the role will support the Manager with internal coordination, organisational decision-making, government reporting and workforce development initiatives.

About you

You are a culturally aware and analytically minded engagement professional with experience working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, organisations and stakeholders.

You bring a robust combination of stakeholder engagement and policy capability, with the ability to interpret government policies and initiatives, coordinate consultation activities, and translate community feedback into clear insights, briefing materials and practical recommendations.

You are confident capturing, organising and analysing engagement data and stakeholder intelligence. With strong attention to detail, you can maintain accurate records, identify themes and emerging issues, improve reporting processes, and support the Manager, Indigenous Engagement with internal coordination, government reporting and evidence-informed advice.

You are organised, adaptable and comfortable working across community, industry and government environments. You understand the importance of culturally respectful engagement and are committed to ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives meaningfully inform workforce, skills and organisational priorities.

Experience within public policy, government, workforce development, VET, mining or automotive sectors will be highly regarded.





Selection Criteria

- Experience building trusted relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, organisations and Traditional Owners, with knowledge of cultural protocols.
- Experience coordinating stakeholder consultations, engagement activities and partnerships across community, industry and government.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret government policy and translate it into clear advice and practical outcomes.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills, including capturing stakeholder data, identifying key themes and preparing reports, briefings and recommendations.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records, coordinate competing priorities and support internal and government reporting.
- Knowledge of workforce development, skills policy or VET, with government, mining or automotive experience.
