Electrician (Licensed) – Move Off the Tools Into Estimating & Quoting
Ready to use your electrical experience without being on the tools every day?
The Plumbing & Electrical Co. is looking for an experienced, licensed electrician who wants to move into a predominantly office‑based role focused on estimating, quoting, electrical coordination and helping grow our electrical division.
This is not a standard electrician role.
You’ll be using the knowledge you’ve built on the tools to price jobs accurately, scope work properly, support our field electricians and deal directly with customers, suppliers and management.
If you’ve been thinking about what comes next after years on the tools, this could be a great move.
The role
This is a full-time position based primarily from our office at:
You’ll spend most of your time in the office, with site visits where required for inspections, quoting and estimating.
The role is designed for someone who understands electrical work properly but wants to transition away from regular hands‑on trade work.
What you’ll actually be doing
- Preparing electrical estimates and quotations
- Writing clear scopes of work, assumptions and exclusions
- Reviewing job photos, plans, notes and customer requirements
- Attending properties and project sites where required to quote work
- Contacting suppliers for current material and equipment pricing
- Preparing variations and additional works quotations
- Responding to customers by phone and email
- Managing incoming electrical enquiries
- Managing HiPages enquiries and quotations
- Assisting with electrical scheduling and job allocation
- Supporting our electricians with job information, materials and customer requirements
- Reviewing completed jobs and ensuring the required photos,
certificates and documentation have been supplied
- Completing electrical safety certificates, notices and compliance paperwork
- Assisting with job costing and invoicing
- Helping improve our electrical pricing and estimating systems
- Building relationships with builders, property managers and commercial customers
- Helping develop new electrical maintenance services and programs
- Working directly with management to grow the electrical side of the business
Why this role is different
A lot of electricians reach a point where they know they don’t want to be crawling through roofs, working outside in summer or carrying tools around for the next 20 years.
But they also don’t want to throw away all the knowledge they’ve built.
This role lets you use that experience in a different way.
Your trade knowledge becomes the foundation for:
You’ll get exposure to the commercial side of the industry and learn skills that can take your career well beyond working purely on the tools.
There may occasionally be an urgent or unusual situation where we ask you to assist onsite, but this would be the exception rather than the normal expectation.
The core of your role is estimating, quoting, coordination and helping run and grow the electrical division.
Who we’re looking for
You’ll need to be a licensed electrician with solid practical experience.
More importantly,
we’re looking for someone who:
- Understands how electrical jobs are actually completed
- Can look at a job and work out what is involved
- Communicates well with customers
- Is comfortable using computers and learning new systems
- Is organised and reliable
- Can manage multiple quotes and enquiries at once
- Thinks commercially, not just technically
- Understands that a good quote needs to be accurate and profitable
- Wants to learn the business side of the trade
- Is comfortable taking responsibility
- Wants genuine career progression
- Is willing to undertake the required training to become an Electrical Nominee and represent the business in that capacity
Previous estimating experience would be outstanding, but it is not essential.
If you’re a good electrician with strong trade knowledge and the right attitude, we can teach you our estimating and quoting systems.
Hours
The position is generally:
Monday to Friday
Approximately 8:30am to 4:30pm where operationally possible
There may requirement for some flexibility depending on customer appointments and operational needs.
Where this role can go
This is not intended to be a dead‑end office position.
We want someone who can eventually become a key part of the electrical business.
As you develop, the role has the potential to expand into areas such as:
- Electrical supervision
- Operations
- Project coordination
- Key account management
- Electrical division management
If you help us grow the electrical division, there is plenty of room for your own position to grow with it.
