About the role
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Chief Executive Officer to lead Police Veterans Victoria into an exciting new chapter of growth and impact. This is a full-time position based in Docklands, Victoria, offering the opportunity to shape the strategic direction of a vital community organisation. As CEO, you will be responsible for the overall leadership, governance, and performance of the organisation, working closely with the Board of Directors to advance our mission and expand our reach within the police veteran community. This role offers the chance to make a genuine difference in the lives of those who have dedicated their careers to public service.
This is a small organisation with a small number of employees and a large volunteer base . It is not a typical CEO role as the incumbent will be expected to assist in all aspects of the organisation, not just the executive tasks.
Key responsibilities
Providing visionary leadership and strategic direction to Police Veterans Victoria, setting ambitious goals aligned with our organisational mission and values
Developing and implementing comprehensive business strategies to grow the organisation's programmes, services, and financial sustainability
Overseeing all operational aspects of the organisation, including service delivery, human resources, finance, and administration
Building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, corporate partners, community organisations, and police veteran networks
Leading fundraising and revenue generation initiatives to secure funding for programmes and operational requirements
Representing Police Veterans Victoria at public events, forums, and media engagements to raise awareness and advocate for police veteran interests
Ensuring compliance with all governance requirements, regulatory standards, and not-for-profit legislation
Managing Board relations and providing regular reporting on organisational performance and strategic outcomes
Leading the recruitment, development, and management of staff to build a high-performing team committed to our mission
Driving innovation in service delivery and exploring new opportunities to support police veteran wellbeing
What we’re looking for
10+ years of leadership experience, ideally with 5+ years in a senior management or equivalent executive role
Demonstrated experience managing not-for-profit, community, or public sector organisations
Proven track record of strategic planning, organisational development,
and achieving measurable outcomes
Strong understanding of governance frameworks and not-for-profit legislation in Australia
Experience in fundraising, stakeholder engagement, and building organisational partnerships
Excellent financial acumen with experience managing budgets and ensuring financial sustainability
Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences
Demonstrated commitment to supporting veterans, first responders, or vulnerable communities
Leadership capability in building and motivating high-performing teams
Knowledge of or connection to the Victoria Police community or emergency services sector is highly desirable
previous experience in policing is an advantage
A genuine understanding of the challenges faced by police veterans and their families
