About the Role
As a Workforce Officer, you will work directly with candidates who are considering or preparing for employment within the aged care sector.
You will help candidates understand the different roles available, the expectations of working in care and the skills, training and compliance requirements needed to enter the workforce.
The role will involve developing tailored workforce‑readiness plans, supporting candidates through accredited and non‑accredited training, and helping them prepare for recruitment and employment.
You will also build relationships with local and regional aged care providers to improve referral pathways, understand current workforce needs and connect suitable candidates with employment opportunities.
This position contributes to a national workforce development project supporting the growth and sustainability of the aged care workforce in regional, rural and remote communities.
Key Responsibilities
Candidate Engagement and Support
- Respond to candidate enquiries and provide timely, personalised support.
- Help candidates understand the range of roles available within the aged care sector.
- Explain the responsibilities, expectations and career pathways associated with aged care employment.
- Conduct candidate profiling to identify strengths, transferable skills,
experience and potential barriers to employment.
- Develop tailored workforce‑readiness and career‑development plans.
- Provide one‑on‑one coaching, mentoring and encouragement.
- Build candidate confidence and support realistic workplace expectations.
- Maintain regular contact throughout each candidate’s training and employment journey.
Employment Preparation
- Provide industry‑specific resume reviews and resume development.
- Support job applications, cover letters and responses to selection criteria.
- Provide interview preparation, coaching and mock interviews with constructive feedback.
- Develop candidate confidence, professional communication and workplace presentation.
- Build soft skills including reliability, teamwork, communication, initiative and time management.
- Help candidates understand employer expectations within the aged care sector.
Training and Skills Development
- Identify candidate training and skills‑development needs.
- Refer candidates into appropriate accredited and non‑accredited training.
- Support access to qualifications, skill sets, short courses, micro‑credentials and industry‑entry programs.
- Help candidates understand training options and requirements.
- Support candidates through enrolment and commencement processes.
- Refer candidates to suitable registered training organisations and learning providers.
- Monitor training participation and follow up progression.
- Help address barriers that may affect training engagement or completion.
- Support the development and coordination of employability workshops and workforce‑readiness activities.
Industry and Employer Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with local and regional aged care providers.
- Understand provider recruitment needs, workforce gaps and employment requirements.
- Establish and strengthen candidate referral pathways.
- Refer suitable, job‑ready candidates to aged care employers.
- Provide employers with clear information regarding candidate capability, readiness and training.
- Seek employer feedback to improve candidate preparation and referral outcomes.
- Work with providers to streamline recruitment and candidate onboarding processes.
- Collaborate with RTOs, training providers, community organisations and industry partners.
- Contribute to workforce development initiatives across regional, rural and remote locations.
Candidate Compliance and Referrals
- Help candidates understand relevant employment and sector compliance requirements.
- Support candidates to obtain required checks, licences and documentation where applicable.
- Ensure candidate records, referrals and supporting documents are accurate and complete.
- Maintain accurate CRM and program records.
- Track candidate engagement, training referrals, employment referrals and outcomes.
- Follow up outstanding actions and ensure candidates continue progressing.
- Contribute to project reporting, targets and key performance indicators.
Broader Workforce Support
- Work closely with Skills Hubs’ workforce, engagement and training teams.
- Support community events, information sessions, workshops and employment activities.
- Contribute to candidate attraction and engagement initiatives.
- Assist with projects and operational activities across the broader workforce team.
- Identify opportunities to improve candidate support, employer engagement and referral processes.
- Contribute to the development of practical, place‑based workforce solutions.
Skills and Experience
- Experience in recruitment, employment services, workforce development, career support or a related role.
- A sound understanding of the aged care or healthcare sector.
- The ability to engage, motivate and support people from different backgrounds.
- Experience coaching candidates in employment preparation or career development.
- Robust understanding of what employers look for when recruiting care‑sector workers.
- Strong relationship‑building and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to manage multiple candidate journeys and follow up actions.
- Confidence working independently and taking ownership of outcomes.
- Experience maintaining records and reporting against targets or KPIs.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, CRM systems and digital communication platforms.
Highly Regarded
- Experience working within aged care, disability support or healthcare recruitment.
- Experience recruiting or supporting candidates into care‑sector roles.
- Experience working within an aged care provider, registered training organisation or employment services organisation.
- Knowledge of CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support.
- An understanding of qualification, training and employment pathways within aged care.
- Experience supporting candidates into accredited and non‑accredited training.
- Knowledge of worker screening, police checks, first aid and other sector requirements.
- Experience supporting people facing barriers to employment.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse communities or regional and remote communities.
- A current driver licence and willingness to travel to regional locations when required.
