Head of Finance - Australia, New Zealand

Location: Sydney

Description

The Head of Finance - ANZ is a senior finance leadership role responsible for the overall financial management, governance, control environment, and performance of the Australia and New Zealand businesses. Reporting to the Regional CFO, APAC, this role has direct accountability for the delivery of all finance activities across ANZ, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, robust financial controls, and effective business partnering.

What you will be doing

Lead the ANZ finance function and take full ownership of finance service delivery, governance, and performance outcomes across Australia and Recent Zealand. Contribute to the development and execution of regional and global finance strategies while ensuring alignment with ANZ business objectives. Act as the primary finance partner to regional and country leadership teams, providing strategic insight and commercial guidance. Support business growth, transformation initiatives, acquisitions, and operational improvements through financial leadership and analysis. Drive accountability for achieving financial targets, profitability objectives, and finance-related strategic initiatives. Lead, develop, and inspire the ANZ finance team, fostering a high-performing and accountable culture. Build capability through effective coaching, mentoring, talent development, and succession planning. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, standardisation, and service quality across finance operations. Maintain accountability for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all statutory, regulatory, management, and Group reporting across ANZ. Ensure all financial reporting is prepared in accordance with IFRS, applicable accounting standards, and Group policies. Own the delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and ensure all reporting deadlines are met. Lead financial governance processes and provide clear financial analysis and insight to support executive and board-level decision-making. Own cash flow forecasting, working capital management, and liquidity planning across ANZ.



Ensure effective management of financial risks through strong controls, governance, and proactive risk mitigation. Partner with Group Treasury on funding requirements, debt management, banking relationships, and cash optimisation initiatives. Maintain accountability for compliance with all tax, financial reporting, regulatory, transfer pricing, and indirect tax obligations across ANZ. Ensure a robust internal control framework is maintained and continuously enhanced. Lead audit processes and ensure timely resolution of audit findings and remediation activities. Promote a culture of compliance, accountability, and control excellence across the finance function. Partner with the Finance Business Partner for APAC to lead and oversee budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes across the ANZ business. Take ownership of financial performance reporting and provide meaningful analysis of key trends, risks, and opportunities. Challenge business leaders and cost centre owners to drive improved financial outcomes and accountability for performance, whilst ensuring commercial performance targets are achieved.

Skills Required

- Qualified accountant (CA, CPA, ACA, or equivalent).
- 10 years of finance leadership experience within complex, multi-entity organisations.
- Strong experience leading financial reporting, governance, compliance, and control functions.
- Demonstrated accountability for delivering finance outcomes and managing teams.
- Strong understanding of reporting requirements, tax compliance, and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience partnering with senior executives and influencing business strategy.
- Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
- Commercially focused with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
