About the Department:

TheInfant Child & Youth Mental Health Service (ICYMHS) is a service with multiple teams servicing the north-eastern catchment of Melbourne Metropolitan (local government areas of Banyule, Nillumbik, Darebin, Whittlesea, Yarra and Boroondara). Young people eligible for the service are 0 to 25 years with a current shift towards Royal Commission recommendations.

About the role

In collaboration with the Clinical Director, Infant, Child & Youth Mental Health Service (ICYMHS), the Lead Psychiatrist provides leadership and oversight of services for young people aged 12-25 years, including clinical care, governance, teaching, research, and resource management.

The Consultant Psychiatrist, Child & Youth Access, provides leadership and clinical governance to the front-end services for children and youth in the Mental Health Division at Austin Health. The role is also pivotal in linking the ICYMHS service and with general Consultation Psychiatrist Liaison services at Austin Health to the Emergency Department.

About you

To be successful for this role, you must:

- Be a registered Medical Practitioner in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).




- Have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent post graduate specialist qualification.
- RANZCP Certificate of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, or equivalent or significant experience in Youth Psychiatry will be considered for this role
- Have an interest in access, frontline assessment and Liaison Psychiatry settings.
- Hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Strong knowledge of triage and access pathways into tertiary mental health services.
- Experience in liaison psychiatry, including emergency department inreach.
- Skilled in working with individuals with serious mental illness.
