Automation Developer - Junior to Mid-Level

OneBlink is an Australian owned software company, based in Gosford on the beautiful NSW Central Coast. We create and market the OneBlink Low-code Suite, a no/low-code application builder that government clients use to rapidly create and deploy new applications when they’re needed quickly. With around 500 local authority clients in the USA and major state government accounts here in Australia, OneBlink is rapidly growing in this innovative and exciting industry.

We’re looking for a curious, practical Automation Developer, reporting to our Operations Manager, to help us design and build business support systems that make work across our business faster, easier and more reliable.

This is a junior-to-mid-level role suited to someone with a foundation in software development who enjoys understanding how things work, solving unfamiliar problems and connecting different systems. You don’t need to know every tool in our stack-we’re more interested in your ability to learn, break down problems and deliver practical solutions.

You’ll work with people across the entire company and have genuine ownership of your work. Once the goals and expectations are clear, you’ll be trusted to investigate options, recommend an approach and see the solution through. OneBlink has a work-from-home culture with regular in-person ‘town hall’ meetings and so proximity to our Gosford home base is strongly preferred.

What you’ll be doing

- Designing, building, documenting and maintaining fit-for-purpose automation systems across the business

- Automating report generation, data ingestion and data transformation

- Building integrations between platforms such as Slack, Linear, Notion and n8n

- Developing AWS-based automations

- Creating and refining AI agents and AI-assisted workflows

- Helping implement and automate security controls

- Identifying quality-of-life improvements that make everyday work easier for staff

- Evaluating tools and technologies to determine the most appropriate approach for each problem

- Continually improving existing implementations and refining how we work

- Providing higher-level technical support and helping the support team investigate complex issues

Our technology stack

Our main development languages are TypeScript and JavaScript, although we’re open to using other languages when they’re a better fit for the task.

We currently work with:

- TypeScript and JavaScript

- GitHub and GitHub Actions

- AWS

- Google Workspace

- Notion

- OpenAI, Google Gemini and Claude

- n8n

- Linear

- Slack

You don’t need experience with every item on this list.

What we’re looking for

- Experience delivering an automated system in any capacity-professionally, personally, academically or as part of an open-source project

- Experience working with a team to deliver a project

- A foundation in software development; backend development experience is helpful but not essential

- Experience working with REST and/or GraphQL APIs

- The ability to analyse ambiguous problems and break them into manageable parts

- A collaborative approach-you’ll be working with people throughout the company, not only the technical team

- A naturally inquisitive mindset and a desire to understand how systems work

- The ability to work independently, take ownership and ask for input when it’s useful

- A willingness to learn from mistakes and improve your approach

You’ll probably also recognise a few developer rites of passage: overengineering a task, spending hours tracking down a bug that turned out to be a typo, or becoming so absorbed in a problem that you completely lost track of time. We value what you learned from those experiences-not the number of hours you worked.

We expect you to provide a cover letter alongside your resume in your application.

Nice to have

Experience in any of the following would be beneficial, but isn’t required:

- Building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines

- Working with AWS services

- Creating, testing and refining AI agents

- Using n8n or another workflow automation platform

- Building integrations between SaaS products

Who will enjoy this role?

This role will suit someone who likes variety and enjoys solving problems that don’t fit neatly into a box. You’ll be comfortable experimenting, asking questions and working through uncertainty. You’ll care about building solutions that are appropriate for the problem-not simply using the newest or most complicated technology.

We’re not expecting you to arrive knowing everything. We are looking for someone who can build on a solid technical foundation, learn quickly and take increasing ownership as they grow.
