SMH Accountants & Advisors is seeking a Bookkeeper and Admin - Public Practice to join our growing team in Travancore, Victoria. This is a part-time position offering flexibility whilst contributing meaningfully to our operations. As a Bookkeeper and Admin professional, you will play a vital role in supporting our public practice, ensuring accurate financial record-keeping and providing administrative support that enables our team to deliver exceptional service to our clients. This position is essential to maintaining the efficiency and accuracy of our accounting operations.
Key responsibilities
- Processing and recording financial transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Reconciling bank statements and identifying and resolving discrepancies
- Preparing and maintaining general ledger accounts
- Assisting with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements
- Managing client bookkeeping records and ensuring compliance with accounting standards
- Providing administrative support to accountants and advisors, including scheduling, correspondence and file management
- Answering client enquiries and providing general administrative assistance
- Maintaining accurate and organised filing systems, both physical and digital
- Assisting with the completion of tax returns and other compliance documentation under supervision
- Performing data entry and ensuring accuracy of financial information
What we're looking for
- Proven experience as a bookkeeper or similar role within a public practice accounting environment
- Strong proficiency with accounting software packages and Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping
- Sound understanding of bookkeeping principles, general ledger accounting and financial reconciliations
- Knowledge of Australian taxation and accounting compliance requirements
- Well-developed organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks
- Professional communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with clients and team members
- Reliability and the ability to work independently whilst contributing to a team environment
- Current or willingness to obtain relevant bookkeeping or accounting qualifications (such as CPA, IPA or MYOB certification) is advantageous
- Experience with payroll processing is desirable
