As part of our continued expansion, we are looking for an experienced Tax Accountant to help grow and develop an existing accounting business within our broader financial services group.
The Tax Accountant is a full-time, in-house and on-site role based in Sydney, NSW.
This is an key growth-focused position responsible for servicing existing clients while helping expand the accounting division through strong client relationships, proactive advice and high-quality tax services.
The successful candidate will prepare and review tax returns for individuals, companies, trusts and other business structures, ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations. They will analyze financial statements, maintain accurate accounting records and identify tax-planning opportunities aligned with each client’s personal and business objectives.
The role will involve working closely with SME business owners, providing practical tax and accounting advice, understanding their broader commercial needs and developing long-term advisory relationships.
Day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and reviewing tax returns and financial statements for individuals, companies, trusts and SME businesses.
- Providing proactive tax planning, structuring and general business advice.
- Managing and developing strong relationships with existing accounting clients.
- Supporting the growth of the accounting business through excellent client service, referrals and the identification of additional advisory opportunities.
- Advising clients on the tax implications of financial and commercial decisions.
- Collaborating with internal finance,
property and financial advisory teams to support broader client strategies.
- Maintaining accurate accounting records, reconciliations and compliance documentation.
- Staying current with legislative, regulatory and industry changes affecting tax and accounting practices.
- Managing multiple client deadlines and ensuring work is completed accurately and on time.
Qualifications and Experience
- Chartered Accountant or CPA qualification is required.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Robust experience in tax compliance, tax preparation, tax planning and business advisory services.
- Demonstrated experience working with SME businesses and business owners.
- Strong knowledge of Australian taxation laws, regulations and reporting requirements.
- Ability to prepare, analyze and interpret financial statements.
- Strong technical accounting skills, including ledgers, reconciliations and general financial reporting.
- Excellent relationship‑building and client‑management skills.
- Strong tax advisory and commercial advice capabilities.
- Ability to identify tax efficiencies and provide practical, strategic recommendations to clients.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax and accounting matters clearly.
- High attention to detail, strong analytical skills and sound professional judgment.
- Proficiency with accounting, tax and practice‑management software.
- Ability to work collaboratively in an in-house, on-site team setting.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines within a fast-growing business.
- A commercial and growth-focused mindset, with a genuine interest in helping build an established accounting business.
