The Cloud Engineer will play a crucial role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of cloud-based solutions, ensuring seamless cloud infrastructure that supports our business's goals.

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in cloud technologies, system architecture, and troubleshooting, with a focus on delivering scalable, reliable, and secure cloud environments.

ACTIVE SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: NV1/BASELINE

Key Accountabilities

Cloud Infrastructure Design and Deployment

Design, implement, and manage scalable, high-performance, and secure cloud environments using platforms such as AWS and Azure.

Utilise automation tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible) and scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell) to streamline cloud infrastructure provisioning, management, and maintenance.

Governance and Continuity Planning

Implement and maintain cloud security best practices, ensuring data privacy, compliance with regulatory standards, and secure access controls.

Monitor cloud infrastructure performance and troubleshoot issues, optimising cloud resources for cost-effectiveness and performance improvements.

Design and implement cloud disaster recovery plans and backup strategies to ensure business continuity and data integrity.

Stay up to date with the latest cloud technologies and trends, providing recommendations for improvements or the adoption of new tools and services to enhance cloud operations.

Collaboration and Support

Work closely with cross-functional teams (development, operations, security) to ensure smooth integration of cloud solutions with existing systems and infrastructure.

Provide technical support for cloud-related issues.

Documentation and Reporting

Maintain detailed documentation for cloud architectures, configurations, and processes.

Provide regular status reports to management on cloud infrastructure performance and any ongoing initiatives.

Other Duties

Any other duties within the scope of the skills and capabilities of this role, as directed by your leader.

Ability and willingness to participate in an out-of-hours roster to support technology changes, as required.

Technical Capabilities

Qualifications/ Licences

Essential

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

- Proven experience working with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
- Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure design, deployment, and maintenance.
- Experience with cloud automation and orchestration tools.
- Proficiency in cloud computing, virtualisation, and containerisation technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong knowledge of cloud networking, security groups, VPNs, load balancing, and firewalls.
- Experience with storage solutions in the cloud.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar.
- Scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation tasks.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools like CloudWatch, Prometheus, Azure Monitor.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritise tasks.

Desirable

- Familiarity with DevOps principles and CI/CD pipelines.
