SACE English Teacher / Senior Tutor – Years 11 & 12
$50–$70 per hour | Flexible After-School Hours | Norwood & Metropolitan Adelaide
About the Role
Smart Path Advisors is expanding its senior secondary academic team and is seeking a current SACE English teacher, experienced senior English educator, or exceptional SACE English specialist to support Year 11 and Year 12 students.
Our preference is to work with educators who have current or recent experience teaching SACE English subjects and a strong understanding of contemporary SACE assessment requirements, performance standards and expectations.
You will work closely with motivated senior students across SACE English, English Literary Studies and Essential English, providing high-quality, individualised academic mentoring alongside the support they receive at school.
This is not simply a homework-help role. We are looking for an educator who can provide teacher-quality academic guidance, challenge capable students, identify weaknesses in written work and help students develop the skills required to achieve strong SACE outcomes.
The role is particularly well suited to a current SACE English teacher looking for flexible additional work outside school hours, while remaining focused on teaching and mentoring.
What You'll Be Doing
Deliver individualised academic support to SACE Stage 1 and Stage 2 English students
Mentor students across English, English Literary Studies and Essential English
Strengthen analytical writing, textual analysis, comparative writing and creative responses
Help students understand and apply SACE performance standards and assessment requirements
Provide detailed, constructive and academically rigorous feedback on student drafts
Support students with folios,
school assessments and examination preparation
Develop students' argument construction, critical thinking, written expression and vocabulary
Identify areas for improvement and develop targeted strategies for individual students
Adapt support according to each student's school, subject, assessment requirements and academic goals
Maintain brief session records and communicate relevant academic progress with the Smart Path Advisors team
Deliver some one-on-one sessions at students' homes across metropolitan Adelaide where required
About You
We are particularly interested in hearing from current SACE English teachers and experienced senior secondary English educators.
The ideal candidate will:
Have current or recent experience teaching SACE Stage 1 or Stage 2 English
Have a strong understanding of SACE curriculum, assessment requirements and performance standards
Demonstrate a high level of expertise in analytical and academic writing
Be capable of providing detailed, teacher-quality feedback on senior secondary work
Be confident supporting academically ambitious Year 11 and Year 12 students
Be able to explain complex concepts clearly and adapt their teaching to individual students
Be professional, reliable and committed to maintaining high academic standards
Enjoy mentoring students in a more individualised environment than is typically possible within the classroom
A recognised teaching qualification is highly regarded, with preference given to applicants who are currently teaching or have recently taught senior secondary English.
Experience teaching or assessing English Literary Studies, Essential English, or participating in SACE assessment or moderation will be particularly valuable.
Exceptional senior English tutors with a solid record of SACE achievement and demonstrated subject expertise are also encouraged to apply.
Experience supporting Flinders University Extension Studies, particularly Women's Studies or Theology, would be advantageous but is not essential.
As some sessions are delivered in students' homes, applicants should hold a current driver's licence, have reliable transport and be comfortable travelling within metropolitan Adelaide when required.
Why Join Smart Path Advisors?
Smart Path Advisors is continuing to develop a high-calibre academic team built around experienced educators, current teachers and subject specialists.
We work with families who value education and students who are looking for more than general tutoring. Our focus is on providing structured, subject-specific academic mentoring that complements the student's school education and supports meaningful improvement.
For current teachers, the role provides an opportunity to work more closely with individual students, provide deeper feedback and see the direct impact of your teaching in a one-on-one environment.
We provide established students, academic coordination and administrative support so that our educators can concentrate on what they do best — teaching, mentoring and helping students achieve strong academic outcomes.
