Tax Practice Leadership | Private Clients | UHNW Families | Equity Pathway
Background
Private Client Tax, Family Groups, HNW/UHNW Advisory, Boutique Advisory or Professional Practice
The Opportunity
If you are a senior private client tax skilled who is ready for more ownership, fewer politics and a much clearer long‑term pathway, this is worth a serious look.
This is a genuine opportunity to step into a Partner‑level tax leadership role inside a premium boutique advisory environment working with ultra‑high‑net‑worth families, complex private groups and sophisticated investment structures.
The business has a high‑quality client base, deep long‑term relationships and a broader advisory model built around trust, judgement and highly tailored advice. Tax is a critical part of that proposition, and this appointment is about finding the person who can lead, strengthen and ultimately shape that function.
This is not a volume practice. It is not a compliance factory. And it is not an environment where good ideas go to die in committee.
The compliance engine matters, of course, but the real opportunity is broader. You will take ownership of the tax practice, set standards, guide technical matters, lead client outcomes, develop the team and play a meaningful role in the future direction of the firm’s tax offering.
For someone with strong private client tax capability who wants more influence, more commercial relevance and a genuine pathway towards equity partnership, this is a highly compelling move.
Role Profile
You will lead the tax function and ensure it operates as a high‑quality, commercially sharp and trusted part of the broader advisory business. Your remit will include:
- Tax Practice Leadership: Taking ownership of the day‑to‑day operation, performance and development of the tax function.
- Compliance Delivery & Technical Oversight: Overseeing accurate and timely tax compliance across complex family groups, trusts, companies, investment entities and private structures.
- Tax Advisory & Strategy: Supporting tax planning, structuring and advisory outcomes, ensuring advice is practical, technically strong and aligned to broader commercial and family objectives.
- Client Leadership: Acting as a senior point of contact on tax matters and building trusted relationships through clarity, responsiveness and sound judgement.
- UHNW & Private Group Advisory: Working with sophisticated families and private groups where tax advice needs to consider structure, wealth preservation, investment activity, succession, risk and long‑term stewardship.
- Specialist Coordination: Working with external tax specialists where required and ensuring specialist input is effectively integrated into client outcomes.
- Team Leadership & Capability Building: Mentoring, developing and supporting the tax team while helping build a culture of quality, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Risk, Quality & Practice Management: Maintaining strong review disciplines, workflow oversight, controls and professional standards across the practice.
- Practice Growth & Future Direction: Helping shape how the tax function evolves, integrates with the broader advisory model and supports the long‑term growth of the business.
Successful Candidate Profile
This role will suit a senior tax professional from a private client, professional practice or boutique advisory environment who is ready to step into a broader leadership position. You will bring:
- Strong private client tax experience, ideally across trusts, companies, family groups, investment entities and complex private structures.
- Demonstrated experience leading tax compliance, review processes and technical delivery across sophisticated client groups.
- The technical credibility to guide complex matters and contribute to high‑quality advisory outcomes.
- Confidence working directly with HNW/UHNW clients, family groups, external advisers and senior stakeholders.
- A commercial mindset and the ability to balance technical rigour with practical, client‑centred advice.
- Experience leading, mentoring or developing team members within a tax or professional services environment.
- The judgement and discretion required to operate in a high‑trust private client environment where confidentiality is non‑negotiable.
- A bias for action. You prefer pragmatic advisory, clean execution and outcomes over academic tax theory.
- CA, CPA or CTA qualification.
- Tax Agent registration, or the ability to meet registration requirements, will be highly regarded.
Location: Eligible candidates must be based in Australia and possess full Australian working rights.
What Makes This Different
This is not a role where you are simply inheriting someone else’s system and keeping the wheels turning. It is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of a tax practice inside a high‑trust, relationship‑led advisory firm with sophisticated clients and a clear appetite for growth.
You will have direct access to decision‑makers, meaningful influence over the direction of the tax offering and the ability to help shape how tax integrates with the broader client proposition. The work is nuanced, commercially relevant and genuinely advisory in nature. It spans compliance leadership, technical review, planning, structuring, client advisory, specialist coordination and team development.
Most importantly, this role offers real long‑term upside. For the right person, there is a pathway to equity partnership and the opportunity to build something with your name on it.
