NSW Treasury is seeking expressions of interest from highly accomplished and strategic senior executive leaders for the role of Executive Director, Macroeconomy Division reporting to the Deputy Secretary, Economic Strategy and Productivity.

- Location: Sydney CBD, with versatile working arrangements available

Role impact and contribution

The Macroeconomy Division plays a critical role in shaping NSW’s economic and fiscal future through rigorous economic analysis, forecasting, modelling and strategic advice to government.

As Executive Director, Macroeconomy Division, you will provide strategic leadership across Treasury’s macroeconomic forecasting, economic research and modelling functions. You will lead the development of evidence-based advice on State, national and global economic issues, helping to inform government decision-making and shape the State’s broader economic strategy.

Leading a high-performing division, you will oversee the delivery of high-quality economic analysis, research and policy advice in a complex and high-profile environment. You will work closely with senior leaders across Treasury, central agencies, the Treasurer’s Office, government agencies and external experts to influence outcomes,



support economic reform and address long-term opportunities and challenges facing NSW.

Key responsibilities include:

- Leading the development of Treasury’s macroeconomic forecasts, economic narrative and whole-of-economy analysis.
- Advising on State, national and global economic issues, analysis and trends to support Treasury’s economic reform and policy leadership.
- Providing accurate, timely and fit-for-purpose data and analysis to inform evidence-based policy and strategic decision-making.
- Advising on population and migration issues, demographic and distributional analysis, and the long-term structural risks and opportunities facing the NSW budget and economy.
- Producing economic and fiscal modelling, including use and stewardship of the Treasury Intergenerational Report model, additional data sources and specialised models.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships across Treasury, central agencies, the Treasurer’s Office, government agencies, other jurisdictions and external experts.
- Leading and developing a diverse high-performing professional workforce in a complex, high-pressure and sensitive environment, while identifying opportunities for reform and improvement.

What you can bring to the role

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

- Strong strategic capability, including the use of economic policy analysis frameworks and problem-solving approaches, with sound knowledge of economics, public policy and government processes.
- Experience undertaking or overseeing analysis of economic policy or related issues, including macroeconomic and structural economic analysis, and developing strategy using data and evidence.
- Substantial management experience, including leading and motivating senior technical experts and building cohesive, high-performing professional teams.
- Advanced communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to represent Treasury with authority and credibility.
- The ability to engage, negotiate and influence diverse stakeholders across government, ministerial offices, other jurisdictions and external organisations.
- Strong judgement,



resilience and accountability in managing complex, high-pressure and sensitive issues in a senior executive environment.
