Cellar Hand and Vineyard Operator - Blackcoat

Blackcoat ® is a premium boutique vineyard and winery located in Ellinbank, West Gippsland around one hour from Melbourne.

The high density vineyard has approx six hectares planted out of a planned eight to ten hectares, with a focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The winery’s seventh vintage was picked earlier this year. The vineyard is positioned in the elevated (cooler) north facing foothills of the Strzelecki Ranges. Multiple clones of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Riesling have been planted on phylloxera resistant rootstock at a high density of just under 7000 vines per hectare. The property is 20 hectares in size with sheep/cattle grazing in other areas.

A winery has been built onsite containing high quality equipment. A Cellar Door and Cafe is planned and has already been approved for construction by local council.

We are looking for a motivated, focused and passionate person to join us in producing wines of the highest quality. This is a great opportunity for a motivated cellar hand & vineyard operator to support premium winemaking operations and broaden their skills. This is a diverse role ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, learning new skills,



and being part of a small, passionate team.

Please note, this is not a seasonal role but rather a permanent full time position.

You’ll work across all areas of production — from tending the vines to assisting with winemaking. The role includes year-round cellar operations, vineyard work and general maintenance around the property.

Key Responsibilities

Vineyard Operations:

- Pruning, canopy management, irrigation monitoring
- Tractor operation, spraying, mowing, slashing
- Harvest preparation and picking support

Cellar Work:

- Fruit processing, pump-overs, racking, cleaning and sanitation
- Barrel work, transfers, additions, bottling line support
- Maintaining a clean, protected working environment

General Duties:

- Property and equipment maintenance
- Record keeping and following production protocols
