Our esteemed Federal Government client is seeking an experienced Lead Data Analyst for a long term contract role
About the Role:
The Data Analyst will support a major data migration initiative, focused on transitioning data from multiple legacy and operational data sources into a up-to-date enterprise data platform.
This role is delivery‑focused and hands‑on, concentrating ondata discovery, source analysis, and migration readiness. The analyst will work closely with business stakeholders, subject matter experts, and technical delivery teams to understand existing data assets and translate that understanding into clear, documented migration requirements.
The Data Analyst encompass a range of activities, including in-depth Source to Target Mapping analysis, comprehensive Data profiling to understand data characteristics and quality, the definition and documentation of business and data Quality Rules, and importantly, the analysis of existing logic within legacy source systems to inform the migration process and data model design. This role will be instrumental in ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and fit for purpose in the target cloud environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertaking strategic planning, mapping and modelling development.
- Organising,
facilitating and co-facilitating workshops to extract business requirements and defining new or improved business processes.
- Managing multiple tasks with competing priorities and deadlines.
- Maintaining dashboards and developing recurring reports to support operational and project decision-making.
- Collaborating with technical teams to validate data pipelines, test changes, and ensure impacts to downstream reporting are understood.
- Extracting, cleansing and transforming data from multiple sources to enable reliable analysis and reporting.
- Applying data quality checks and monitoring to identify anomalies, resolve issues and improve data integrity.
- Maintaining data definitions, business rules and documentation to ensure consistent interpretation and use of information.
- Translating stakeholder requirements into clear analytical questions, data specifications, and deliverables.
- Conducting ad hoc analysis to identify trends, risks and opportunities, and presenting findings in a clear and actionable manner.
- Communicating and engaging withnon‑technical stakeholdersto elicit business knowledge, validate data understanding, and support migration decisions.
Deliverables:
- Analyse and document system requirements for applications, ensuring high-quality delivery.
- Highlight and identify gaps in existing functionality.
- Highlight and identify functional interdependencies.
- Contribute to and influence ICT strategy resolving conflicts as needed.
Skills & Experience:
- Strong hands on experience using SQL to interrogate, analyse, and validate data.
- Proven experience supporting data migration or system replacement programs.
- Experience conducting data discovery, source system analysis, and data profiling.
