The Senior Purchasing & Procurement Officer has primary responsibility for ensuring supply meets demand, that product quality is sourced at the appropriate level and that the pricing paid is best in market. In addition, the position is responsible for providing a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers.
Key responsibilities
- Continual development and management of the company's supplier base, including attraction of new suppliers and performance management of existing suppliers
- Development and implementation of purchasing programs with sufficient lead time to manage the forward supply plan
- Continue to lift demand of existing customers via effective development of new supply lines
- Managing the difficulty of adapting to changes in supply pricing and stock availability
- Ensuring all price rises are passed on in a timely manner to protect the company's margin
- Ensure that the purchasing team is constantly sourcing new and innovative products to promote to customers
- Continual development of the company's range to promote growth
- Management of key suppliers that support the sales and marketing activity of the company,
including negotiation of agreements and monitoring of performance and service levels
- Manage stock on hand to ensure balance between stock turn days, on hand value, out of stocks and bulk purchase discounts
- Take inbound customer orders by phone and email on rotation
About you
- 3 years' experience in Procurement & Purchasing roles specifically in fresh food
- Strong food product purchasing background and experience
- Good planning skills and a proactive and deliberate approach to work
- Good analytical skills
- Strong organisation and communication skills
- Ability to work under limited supervision and is able to problem solve
- Have analytical abilities, team working capabilities and be results oriented
- Ability to work in a high-volume department
- Food manufacturing and Distribution Exposure at an SME sized operation is essential
- Flexible approach to work tasks in a small team workplace
